A recent letter spoke of support for a candidate with a military background because of the “need for war.” That line struck me in how clearly it describes what our society is becoming.

We have reached a point where society needs, glorifies and craves war (both hot and cold). It doesn’t really matter what the reasons are.

We need enemies to hate and kill. Anyone who tells us we should reconsider will be branded an unpatriotic coward who gives aid and comfort to the enemy.

Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called sons of God.” Whose sons are we becoming?

It is only when religious doctrine is combined with political power that great damage is done by AND to religion.

It is often forgotten that the separation of church and state was strongly urged by churches to protect those churches from the power of the state and the power that other religions could wield if they combined with the states.
