Sat Sep 26th 2009, 02:49 PM Went to his town hall meeting in my county today.
Batshit crazy doesn't even begin to cover this crowd. Crazier than a shithouse rat is getting close, but even that doesn't quite get it. I typically don't agree with him on much. I don't even consider him to be that much of a Democrat (we all know republicans more liberal than him), but the nearly all white, old crowd (5 African Americans out of maybe the 100 that were there) didn't care. It was an opportunity for a mob to get together to bitch and moan about how evil the government is. How evil Nancy Pelosi is (I guess she's their bogey man now that Teddy is dead). How the Democrats are ruining America. I heard all the usual buzz words: "death panel", "tort reform", "welfare queens", etc... They cheered when Glenn Beck's name was mentioned. I was told I was a bad person because I told the crazy libertarian who tried to steal the show that if he hated a strong federal government so much that he should move to Somalia. It really pissed me off that I actually didn't ask any of the questions that I was going to before we got there. I was going to go after him for not supporting a public option, for being in the pocket of Big Ag or Big Pharma or any of the millions of other things he normally pisses me off about, but I just couldn't. I actually didn't want to pile on to him. I was actually shutting the people up around me that were trying to go after him for being a Democrat. I felt like I had to protect one of my own. We have a big tent and today I felt like he earned his place in it. p.s. My husband and I and the 6 other healthcare reform supporters who were in there actually were a bit worried about getting out of there. I've never been so happy to see our new Democratic African-American sheriff walk into a room in all my life! I was educated in Georgia. Honors programs and graduated with honors from high school and college. I fully believe I can hold my own against anyone in Trivial Pursuit.
![]() I am one of those crazy people that believes you can't blame teachers for the failings of a student. You need to place an emphasis on education from the moment a child is born and they must understand that you, as a parent, believe that education is the most important thing. I have a 7 month old son. I read to him everyday. Right now, his favorite thing to do is chew on a book, but that will eventually lead to him reading the book. A love of learning isn't something that's picked up later on. It must be developed from a very early age. No matter where you live. On edit: with this all being said, I went to what is historically known as a "teacher's college". I will home school my child before I entrust him to some of the idiots being churned out there. Good teachers are being forced out for younger ones who will work for less (amazing as it is - they already don't make what they should) and who know less. People coming out of the colleges today are already structured to teach for a test - not to teach for the pursuit of knowledge itself. I will agree that intellectual curiosity is basically dead in the South, but I don't believe that is limited to just this region. America as a whole lags behind desperately when compared to the rest of the industrialized nations of the world.

Fri Nov 10th 2006, 03:23 PM Mr. Carville,
I knew in late 2003 that you were out to get Howard Dean and I knew why. He was muscling in on your territory – telling Democrats what to do. And horror of all horrors – they were actually listening to him instead of you. Now that you’ve become obsolete in a party that has been reinvigorated by Dr. Dean’s commitment to winning on every level, you’ve shown yourself to be just what we – the rank and file Democrats – knew you to be: a petulant child who can’t stand losing. How many times must you be proven wrong about him, his ability to raise money or his ability to lead this party before you will just slink away into your much deserved obscurity? For the sake of our party, just go ahead and go now and take the rest of the damn DLC with you. Wed Nov 01st 2006, 09:59 AM Jesus Christ on a Trailer Hitch! Would it kill anyone in this party to show a spine and to understand the concept of 'Big Team, Little Me'? So Kerry misspoke. It's not like W doesn't every damn time he opens his mouth, i.e. Is our children learning? To be able to put food on your family...
Kerry said exactly what needed to be said. And he said it even further in his press conference later. The damn Democrats piling on for an apology need to sit down and shut the hell up. This is why we're seen as being weak on everything. We can't even play nice together when one person, who is clearly a highly educated man, gets so far ahead of himself in his thoughts that he mispeaks. I had no trouble whatsoever understanding exactly what he meant. Why can't the media (who are the ones really making this an issue)? And why can't those Democrats who are calling for his apology?

Mon Oct 30th 2006, 01:37 PM I've held out over the last few years because I knew it was getting more and more conservative (I don't know what happened - it was quite the liberal place when I was there), but this takes the goddamned cake!
![]() Fuck you Georgia Southern. I am an alumni and I can say it all I want. F.U.G.S. ![]() I refused to go to Homecoming this year because they had our asshat Rep gov (stupid moonface idiot Sonny Perdue) give last year's commencement address. This is beyond the pale. I hereby vow I will never set foot on that godforsaken campus ever again (and I can hold a grudge - I didn't talk to someone for 7 years because he didn't get me a concert ticket and he got everyone else in our circle of friends one). This is final. I can't wait until they call me begging for money........ ![]() ![]()

Carter Dean was born on Monday, the 5th, at 3:57pm. He weighed 8lbs and was 19 1/2" long. Easiest labor ever - I might be talked into doing this again

Tue May 16th 2006, 09:51 AM I just saw this very well done film last night and I just wanted to encourage everyone to go see it when it's released in a few weeks.
I was fortunate enough to get into an advanced screening where VP Gore took questions afterwords. He and Tipper are looking fantastic these days! For the celebrity watchers - Sean Penn was there too (and this is in Atlanta - on a Monday night!), Ted Turner and former Senator Sam Nunn were also in attendance. Didn't get to talk to the man himself, but I did have a nice chat with Tipper. I'm very pregnant right now and the first thing she did was come up and put her hand on my belly! The liberal bun in the oven doesn't stand a chance! He's a Democrat through and through! ![]() There are some very disturbing facts in this film. Nothing that we here at DU don't already know, but it's done in such a way that even Dubya could understand that if we don't take drastic measures in the very near future, we will face irreversible consequences. I strongly encourage everyone here to see this film when it comes out and take 5 friends with you. In the meantime, while waiting for it to open, please visit www.climatecrisis.net to see what you can do to help! On a side note: on the way home from this showing last night, the comparison between Vice President (or Mr. President, if you will) and President Carter hit me. I don't make this comparison lightly. I love Jimmy Carter - I'm naming my son (who is due in a couple of weeks) Carter after him! The comparison is this: when President Carter left the White House, he didn't stop to go play golf. He knew there were things out there that needed to be addressed and our government was failing at it. He started his own foundation, even though he could have slipped quietly into retirement, and got to work. The same thing goes for Vice President Gore. When that complete and utter miserable failure was awarded the White House, VP Gore went back to giving his slide show and lecture on this very important global issue to any and everyone who would listen. It may not be politically expedient, but it's necessary for the greater good of our planet. I see them both as men who have a vision far into the future and they can't rest until we see it as well. Tue May 09th 2006, 02:55 PM It's steadily gotten much worse since I left there 10 years ago.
Now every time I go back, when you get away from the core campus, if you listen you can hear, ever so faintly, the sounds of two banjos dueling in the distance. Bastards! They've ruined my school. But this is good ammo. Every time they now send me a whoa is me we need money fundraiser letter, I'll print out this photo and tell them this is why they won't get any money from me. Go ask the assclown Johnny Isakson. My alma mater is dead to me ![]()

A burning bush. Someone walking on water. Obviously strong witchcraft going on there.
What a fucking moran. Haven't we settled this already? 6 books into the series is a little late to get your panties in a wad.

I wholeheartedly agree. I am sick and tired of waffling and backpedaling from our candidates - on every level. It is time to stop being painted as weak on everything. Come out with some guns blazing. There is certainly plenty of ammunition to go around. I'm tired of having to support a pissy ass, whiny woe is me candidate every damn election cycle nowadays. The GAGOP is making a killing because they are the ones seen as stronger people. And as much as I hate to criticize my friends in the metro area, with all due respect, you guys have no clue what it's like to deal with the redneck idiot people of the hinterlands. Reasoning doesn't work. Catchy slogans and displays of strength do work. It's a sad fact, but it is true. These people don't think things out - if they did, Gore would still be our president. These people go with gut reactions and their gut is telling them that the mamby pamby Democrats can't get their shit together long enough to find their asses with both hands - and I see their point. I swear that I am telling the truth when I say that just saying "don't they realize that they are voting against their own best interests?" isn't a valid question anymore. No they don't, because they aren't smart enough to realize that. Come to my county. Go to any of the local restaurants at lunch time to see what I'm talking about. Go to the local county rec ball field on any given night and see what I'm talking about. Live my life for one week and see what I'm talking about. Then you'll see why I am dead serious when I ask my husband if he prefers Oregon or Vermont for when we move to get away from the ignorance that surrounds us every day.

Wed Apr 12th 2006, 08:28 AM This smacks of pandering at its worst. Where was ultra Christian Bill during his tenure in that office? And Hillary wasn't off during church bake sales during her stint as FLOTUS. So suddenly they find religion because it's what worked to bring in voters the last time. Ultra liberals won't go for this because they(and I) can't stand hypocrites. Average Americans/Swing Voters won't go for this because they can't stand hypocrites either.
For everyone who loves Hillary to death, please for one minute stand back and take an objective look at her. All you have to do is say her name and the Republicans are foaming at the mouth. She will be the poster child for whipping up their base. And quite frankly, you have an awful lot of Democrats who can't stand her either. Not because she panders to big business, but because we're tired of having to support people who talk out of both sides of their mouths. As much as Dick Morris and others want you to believe it, Hillary can not win.

Tue Apr 11th 2006, 11:39 AM ![]() Now if that doesn't work, try this one: ![]() They should get the message, but then again, we are talking about some southern biblethumpers and I know how they can be........ At our next get together, remind me to tell you why I had to put that sticker on the door. Goddamned fundies!!!!!!!!!

Wed Mar 22nd 2006, 02:02 PM And stayed for the service afterwards. It shows me just what the fundies don't understand. President Carter's church truly believes and teaches the tolerance and love that Christ taught for your fellow man. I don't consider myself to be a religious person, or even a spiritual person, but if all churches and supposed Christians were like this, I'd have no problem with them and would probably go because the people of his church "get it."
Then you get to have your picture taken with him. I love JC and I'm actually touching his back ![]() ![]()
