they say nothing gets accomplished anyway. For the last election I talked many of those people into voting because they were so sick of the Bush administration crimes, and I told them that a Democratic Congress would be the only way that Bush would have to pay for his crimes. Most of them expressed doubt, but I got them to vote. So....my question to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats is....what am I supposed to tell those people now? And how do I convince them to vote in the future? ...

I don't know if I'm just expecting too much from news sources, but I think if you're supposed to be a legitimate news website, you shouldn't be linking to fake news stories on the Onion (nothing against the Onion. I love it). Granted, the link does explicitely say "satire", but still... ****** Breaking Onion News: Satire: Clinton withdrawals to woo voters (Link) ****** I've seen PLENTY of Onion stories making fun of Bushy and things like torture and shredding the Constitution. How come I d...

I know I'm a small fish in a big pond here. Heck, if DU were a football team, I'd be the 3rd string guy on the bench who only gets called on when the two main guys get injured and then everybody in the crowd looks at the name on the back of my jersey and says "Who?" :) I was kinda hoping my 1000th post would be something profound, thought provoking, witty, etc... But I learned a long time ago that I'm more of a responder than an original post guy. But thank you to everyone in this community...

Some guy I argue with on another board is tired of all the bitching about Bush, and wants to know how our life has changed for the worse since Bush took office. I'm coming up with a list, but would like some input please.

I heard Stephanie Miller mention this on this morning's show - that the latest terror plot was discovered using completely legal wiretapping methods by London police. Can anyone provide a link to info about this, because I'd love to have some proof of this as I discuss this with RW wackos who insist that the only good wiretapping is illegal wiretapping by the Bush administration.

Go with your own feelings and do what's right for you. Believe in what you believe. You can still be a good Democrat. I used to be like you - proud of my country. I always felt that the United States was the best. I believed that whoever was running the country, even if I didn't see eye to eye with them, they had the best interests of Americans at heart. These beliefs, I never questioned. And then September 11th happened. And I was hurt and angry. And I believed that we needed to go aft...

Dick's Grocery store, that is. Here in Dodgeville, WI. My wife and I went to pick up a few items tonight and in front of us is this middle aged couple. The guy is wearing a t-shirt that says "Camp Gitmo" on the front of it. So already he's irritating the piss out of me. As he's walking out, I catch what's written on the back of the shirt. "Your Tropical Retreat from the Stress of Jihad," and underneath that is "(Link)". :puke:

I begin with this quote from Kurt Vonnegut Jr., whom I find fascinating. **** Say what you will about the sweet miracle of unquestioning faith. I consider the capacity for it terrifying. **** I'm starting to think that a majority of Bush supporters - the 30+% diehards who still support him, and will always support him - have to be members of this group. I'm starting to draw correlations between the mindset of religious fanatics and Bush supporters. Both of them have faith in what they believ...

(Link) "We are outraged that anyone would create and publish such a despicable video for public exposure," military spokesman Lt. Col. Jonathan Withington said in a statement. "The terrorists continue to demonstrate their immoral disregard for human dignity and life" I'm glad that in this country we don't stoop to their level. :sarcasm: (Image) (Image)

this website may interest you. It's not something put together by Russ, but he obviously has some pretty serious supporters. I've bookmarked it and will take a look. I'm from Wisconsin and would definitely support Russ. He shows courage where many others don't, and stands up for his principles. (Link)/ It has TONS of information, and a lot of good stuff from Russ. The homepage is dedicated to Russ's censure motion. Some interesting quotes from him: Wisconsin Sen. Russell Feingold accuse...

Ok, this is just sick. I would love one of the mainstream media outlets to get this story and run with it. (Link) <snip> Dutch viewer Frank Tiggelaar writes: There was a striking dicrepancy between the CNN International report on the Bush visit to the New Orleans disaster zone, yesterday, and reports of the same event by German TV. ZDF News reported that the president's visit was a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open air food distribution point Bush visited in f...

(Link)/ This just drips of bullshit. Make sure you wash up afterwards. You'll need it. Sorry - I'll post a bit of the article: <snip> President Bush was wearing "a huge smile," but his eyes were red and he looked drained by the time he got to the last widow, Crystal Owen, a third-grade schoolteacher who had lost her husband in Iraq. "Tell me about Mike," he said immediately. "I don't want my husband's death to be in vain," she told him. The president apologized repeatedly for her hus...

Amazing article. With Clinton, we had surpluses, yet THIS is somehow good news. I'm dizzy from the spin (Link) <snip> surging revenues and a steadily growing economy are combining to bring the deficit down from a record $412 billion posted last year. The coming budget year starts October 1. The report is welcome news for President Bush, who has seen the budget situation during his tenure deteriorate markedly from predictions of unending surpluses when he took office in January 2001. ...

this is just too funny. (Link) Here at DU, we immortalize people who stand up for the Constitution. People like John Conyers, who stood up for us in trying to find the truth behind the Downing Street Minutes. People like that. Apparently, all it takes to become a Freep hero is to not serve pizza to Frenchies or Germans. :wtf:
