I took the oath and put on my “Election Judge” sticker for the third time last week. ‘Twas quite a departure from a year ago: as opposed to the nearly 2,100 voters passing through my precinct then, we had merely 85 (including five absentee ballots!) yesterday. The only offices on the ballot were city council and school board, but still…a disappointing turn-out.

Sitting at the polling place for 141/2 hours did, however, give me an opportunity to converse quite a bit with my fellow election judges. What an eye-opener! I found out many things:
  • Health care is just fine in the U.S. – if you can afford it – so we should stop trying to make it so “socialist.” Especially because there was this one person from Poland who said that their universal health care was OK most of the time, but he knew a woman who died from breast cancer because she had to wait a month for a mammogram.

  • ACORN has been changing elections with their wicked ways.

  • The “Big Bang” theory is ridiculous. God created the Universe.

  • If you fill a write-in vote with a nonexistent candidate then your entire ballot should be discarded.

  • The Internet is funded entirely by pornography.

  • The United States is a Christian nation, blessed specifically by God in the Bible.

  • People in the U.S. don’t care about life any more because of the millions and millions of babies we kill every year with abortions.

I shouldn’t be surprised. After all, we’ve all seen incredible hypocrisy over the past eight years under B*sh. Accusations of unpatriotic behavior while the Constitution was shredded, attempts to marginalize the Legislative and Judicial branches of government while complaining about an “obstructionist” Congress, a rush to “Christianize” our government while implementing a social policy that was as anti-Christian as anything imaginable, etc., etc., ad infinitum, ad nauseum. The Republican party of today doesn’t traffic in silly things like logic, common sense, and reason. Their chief weapons are fear, surprise, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope - but not ruthless efficiency…

Yet I was still surprised to read the drivel spewn by has-been Chuck Norris. If you can get through this half-assed screed without gagging, you’ll read Chuck’s rationale about why it’s okay for the state of Texas to secede from the U.S. if “the going got rough in America.”

I’m currently reading a fascinating book called Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by Jon Krakauer. It uses a brutal double-homicide (mother-child) committed by Mormon fanatics as the catch, but covers the entire history of the Mormon “church.” I now realize how incredibly little I knew about those wackos. I realize that doesn’t sound very accepting. I’m normally a very accepting person; you want your own religion, fine. But when the religion advocates misogyny, male chauvinism, polygamy, murder, and an incredibly antiquated patriarchal system of rule, as well as a complete disregard for any form of government outside its theology, then I have a problem with it.

I can't count the times I've had this same argument with good ol' God-fearin' (self-proclaimed) "Christians." Christianity, to this crowd, is cherry-picking a few not-very-clear verses of Leviticus translated from Aramaic and interpreting the hell out of it to support their dimwitted, Neanderthal (although that is an insult to Neanderthals, which isn't an issue to this crowd, as Neanderthals never existed in their minds, as they pre-date their imcomprehensible view of the Earth's lifespan...) take on sexuality, homosexuality, morality, et al. And ignoring anything else in the Bible that contradicts, contravenes, confounds, or confuses. Except John 3:16 (New Bud commercial: "Here's to you, Mr. End-zone small-minded uneducated homophobic selfish Palin-lovin' John 3:16-poster waving guy.")

I mean, that stuff about loving your neighbor as yourself (Jesus' second greatest commandment), taking care of the poor and sick, doing unto others as you would have done unto yourself...that stuff is hard! Christianity is a helluva lot easier if you just skip those tough parts. Same with Islam. Same with any other major religion.

And that crowd doesn't like it when you throw it back in their face. They have no answers for it. Because there are none. It's hypocrisy, plain and simple.

Just talked to the Scott County elections official and asked her about volunteering as a recount judge (I was an Election Judge on Tuesday). She said that the state is handling procedures for this, and so far they have not been contacted on how to proceed. She didn't know if they (the state) would somehow be procuring judges, or if the county office would be asked to get them. She did take down my name so that *if* they're asked, she'll have some people to contact.

The wheels of justice turn slowly...

Coleman has been making the ridiculous argument that Franken should just concede the election to save the MN taxpayer's money - as if that scuzz would do that if the situation was reversed. Anyway, I have the solution: Norm got $75,000 in illegal money funneled through his wife. He can come clean and donate that $75,000 to the State of Minnesota to help finance the recount! Since they're estimating a cost of about $90,000, Norm will pretty much take care of it. And his conscience - as if he had one! - will be clean...at least on that count.

Waddaya think?

I received this call from "Adam" a few days ago. It's highly indicative of the tenor and make-up of the McCain campaign and constituency. At first I was convinced it was a joke being played upon me by a friend, but it's really just that bad. Listen as Adam:

  • pronounces Barack's name as "Obamian" - and I really don't think he does it intentionally. He's just not very smart.

  • denounces the Democrats as "too extreme" and the "most divisive."

  • calls our party the "Democratics." Again, I don't think this is a standard neocon ploy, but rather the result of inbreeding.

  • mispronounces his own candidate's name as "Pall-in" (vs "Pale-in").

  • misreads the word "aisle" (as in "reaching across the aisle") as "ally" (as in what England was to us in WWII).

  • and, I think, states that McCain, Palin, and team have a, "long history of ... arguing (?) against their own party."

It's really just unbelievably bad.

Other than Americans are just plain stupid - oops, I've had to modify my phrasing to "intellectually uncurious" - I can't understand how ANYONE can look at this and not see where spending cuts have to happen! And, unfortunately, neither candidate will mention it, as the accepted wisdom is that it would be political suicide.

We are so fucking far out of whack that it just BAFFLES me. How can anyone justify that we spend more than 3x as much as all our possible "enemies" - I'm counting China, Russia, UAE (yes, I *did* go there!), Iran, Pakistan, and probably North Korea - combined, and that there isn't HUGE room for cuts there? It's insane, crazy, screwed, whacked, unbalanced, mad, loco, and nonsensical. Not to mention just plain wrong.

I just want to SCREAM - and often do - when I hear these neocon retards (a word I don't like my children to use, that is totally non-PC, yet strangely appropriate here) talk about cutting things like Medicaid, or Education, or Social Security. Duh! Lop half the military budget off and we can fund EVERYTHING that would make this country a better place, PLUS start helping Third World countries increase their standard of living. Once people are fed, clothed, and housed, they somehow forget about fighting FUCKING WARS all the time! Strange how that works...

Bessie and Gary,

I was flabbergasted to learn of your decision to fire Barry Nolan, and even more stunned to hear of your moronic nomination of Bill O'Reilly for an Emmy. You've instantly lost any credibility you might have had as a legitimate, impartial news source. Bill O'Reilly is one of the worst, partisan, fact-ignoring, hate-mongering blowhards on television, and it's incredible that any network would allow him access to the airwaves, as his mindless codswallop isn't worth the electrons it's broadcast upon. It's even more jaw-dropping that someone could nominate him for any kind of award and still show his/her face in public without collapsing from the crushing burden of shame.

I guess Comcast doesn't really subscribe to ethics and journalistic integrity and all that namby-pamby truth stuff.

"Bessie and Gary" are Bessie Tsionis and Gary Meuse, listed as producers of Backstage. Their website is www.cn8.tv.

I am the yang to your ying. Or Thing 1 to your Thing 2. Or ham to your egg. You get the idea.

Likewise, Obama supporters do not appreciate being called "blind", or "worshippers", "naive", or "lovestruck." I hope every Obama supporter will vote for Clinton in the fall, IF she is the nominee, even if that means holding our noses and requiring years of therapy afterwards. ;^)

I agree 1027% that we need to elect a Dem this fall, no matter what. Either one will be a exponential improvement (positive integer exponents only, please - implied by the word "improvement") over the current crooks masquerading as White House occupants.

Anyone that bites his/her nose off to spite his/her face by abstaining or voting for the Warmongering Geezer is not as much interested in the fate of this country - and world - as s/he is beholden to his/her own ego.

Editor's Note: I wish English had a singular gender-neutral pronoun. I am Mr. Inclusive Language, but it just ain't pretty...

...on the Stephanie Miller Show this morning. Priceless. Talk about humminahumminahummina. As Bugs Bunny was fond of saying: "What a maroon!" I don't know how anyone can take this lying sack of crap seriously. Not only a used-car salesman, but a bad used-car salesman - sort of like the father in Breaking Away before he repented at the end.

Anyone have a link to the audio to which I refer?

The problem is getting the truth out to the masses. You ask anyone in your neighborhood what they know about election fraud in 2004 and 2000 and you'll get blank looks, or at best condescending smiles. The sad truth is that 98.742% of Americans get their information - if they get any at all - from the 6:00 news. And NONE of this is going to appear there.

If the media cartel would be putting stories like this in front of people on a nightly basis, we would have people pissed off to the point that those chickenhawks would be run out of office. The overwhelming glut of information coming out - it really does seem like a scandal per day - about the Cancerous Culture of Corruption™ that pervades the Republican party, White House, and Justice Dept is just INCREDIBLE. I don't believe anyone with an ounce of integrity could take a look at all we know so far - which is only a small portion of the truth - and continue to support this administration and party officials.

...that they're not technically violating the court order is offensive and demeaning. As if it's OK to destroy evidence just because they happen not to be at Guantanomo right now, or when the court order came out, or whenever. I don't think there's a Republican left that has any shred of moral fiber.

We can debate the philosophical differences we have between parties, but what happened to the old-fashioned notion of following the law and doing what's right? (or should I say, "correct?")
