Clinton Spokesperson Rules Out Pursuit Of Obama's Pledged Delegates

Hillary spokesperson Phil Singer is adamantly denying a report this morning in The Politico quoting an anonymous campaign official suggesting that the Clinton campaign will pursue Obama's pledged delegates. Singer sends me this:

We have not, are not and will not pursue the pledged delegates of Barack Obama. It's now time for the Obama campaign to be clear about their intentions.

It's worth noting that the Politico story quotes a Clinton official predicting that both campaigns will pursue the pledged dels. The Obama camp has not yet put out a statement on whether they'll pursue Hillary's pledged dels, though they very likely will soon.

More in a bit.

Late Update: The Obama campaign has ruled out this tactic, too. Obama spokesperson Tommy Vietor sends me this:

"We would absolutely not use these sorts of tactics. Senator Obama is focused on winning contests and earning the support of pledged delegates."

See, this is the vital difference between Clinton supporters' outrage over Obama missteps (i.e plagiarism), and Obama supporters' outrage over Clinton mishaps (i.e. this story); the former is at least based on actual events, while the latter is based on supposition, innuendo, and rumor.

I want to vomit every time I see this ridiculous fucking meme. Those 796 have every right to vote one their own, and should not be cowed into voting for one or the other based on the result of the pledged delegate results.

The vast majority are elected officials, current and former, who were capable of making sound decisions on their own as members of Congress, the Senate, as Governors, as Mayors etc...

Do we demand that our elected officials take a poll of their constituents on every bill, every motion, every amendment, every earmark? No, we do not. Why do some feel that their role as superdelegates should now suddenly be beholden to the direct will of the voters?

I'm personally for Clinton, and if she went in to the convention with a lead, and the supers went Obama's way, then so be it. This is how the process has been for 30+ yeas, and all this crying and feet-stomping at the 11th hour is abso-fucking-lutely pathetic.

It'd be like a team losing the Super Bowl in overtime, and bitching about the "sudden death" rules if they never get a chance to get the ball.

Summation: suck it up. Stop embarrassing yourselves and your candidate.

No, there can't possibly be a sizable number of Hillary Clinton supporters in the DU!

We love Obama!
Obama is hope!
Obama is change!

If you don't support Obama, then you must hate hope and change. And the only people we know that hate "hope" and "change" are...conservatives! Therefore, they all must be SPIES!!!

What you need is a cold, hard dash of reality; not everyone here likes your candidate as much as you think they should, and no "OMG Communists in the State department!" style of red scare witch-hunting is going to tar the large number of supporters around here.

Summation; shut the fuck up.

When you're asked "could you see yourself working to support Hillary Clinton" if your husband doesn't win, there is only one right answer to that question.

"I’d have to think about that" was not it.

Edit - adjusted to cite Mrs. Obama's exact words as seen here

as there have alrady been several disingenuous "but that wasn't the question" responses.

as strange as it may sound. While watching a bit of The Alternative of VH1 Classic last night (anything to get away from sports talk about my pathetic Patriots), the Sex Pistols "Anarchy in the UK" came on. It was fun to see the 70's era kids in the crowd shots, all black-haired, mascaraed, paper-clips trough noses, ears...it was loud, different, thumbed a big "fuck you" to the bloated establishment of the time...Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Stones...who couldn't help but be swept up by that, the newness and the freshness for a change?

But in the end it was all flash and no substance as the Pistols imploded, and the kids moved on to the New Wave and then the new thing after that, and after that, etc...while the others carried on in one form or another.

Just sayin...

Voters: What're you rebelling against, Obama?
Obama: Whaddya got?

That "Yes we can" slogan is a great one, yes, as it epitomizes his campaign to a T. It does not stand for changing anything specifically, it just stands for "change" itself.

One ounce of faint support for Palestinian rights, then AIPAC grumbles, then they snap right back into the same, sad dogma that has been a part of American politics for 60 years now. A remarkably similar thing happens in regards to the Cuban embargo and the Floria exile community, although that is finally starting to crack a small bit.

For once though, this isn't something to lay on Obama alone. They all do it, Republican and Democrat alike.

in that Kerry won early, Dean imploded, and Edwards ran a spirited but firmly cemented in second place campaign. There was really never much in contention. Unlike now, where the split has been very wide and each of the top two candidates has won a share of the primaries so far.

Before the primary season began, there was really nothing much to argue about. Everyone here believed Bush is a flaming moron, ne of the greatest detriments to this country that we have seen since Nixon. But now we have something to argue about; how best to undue his tainted legacy.

Once the primaries wind up, it will all return to normal here. Peopleon all sides here realizse there's too much at stake to continue another Nader-like splintering.

According to CNN...Seems that when several of the Senators sitting together tonight reached over to shake each others' hands and say a few words and such, when it was Obama's turn to shake Hillary's, he decided it was time to turn away to talk to Claire McCaskill on his other side.

You stay classy, Obama.

Regarding one of the memes put out there over and over (and over and over and...) over the last few weeks and months by Barack Obama and his supporters; that Hillary...and by extension, Bill...are divisive and polarizing. This has been touted as a reason to vote for Obama since he represents change, does not have the baggage that the Clintons do, will not rile up the whole of conservatism, etc...

I'm wondering if these meme-repeaters have even an inkling of the bile and invective that the right-wingers have had for Teddy Kennedy FOR FORTY YEARS. If you're getting rankled over a few DU'ers bringing up Chappaquiddick in jest, then you are in no way prepared for what would come in the General Election. No, Ted K. isn't running himself, nor will he be a close associate of a potential Obama administr6ation, as Bill would be to Hillary. But you can bet that the first negative ad campaign run by the GOP nominee will be images and recitations of this endorsement, run in red state markets. The "liberal lion" is still Public Enemy #1 in those parts, now and forever more.

So all in all, I just find it interesting that one of the primary reasons cited for Obama being the more effective candidate has pretty much been neutralized by this latest endorsement.
