A historian, McGovern said he would remind Obama that foreign powers have been trying unsuccessfully to prevail in Afghanistan “ever since Alexander the Great. Genghis Khan even made a shot at it. The British throughout the 19th century were in there several times trying to pacify the and finally gave up. The Russians were there for 11 years, 1979 until 1990, they put in 100,000 crack soldiers, 25,000 of them killed ... in Afghanistan, another 25,000 crippled or injured. And the Russian treasury went broke, and some of our best Soviet experts believe that’s what really led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.”

Asked how he would get out of Afghanistan if he were president, McGovern said: “I would say to the Afghan people that ‘we’ve been here for eight years, and we’ve come to the conclusion we can’t resolve your problems. You’ve got the Taliban, you may have al-Qaida, but—our soldiers have fought, died bravely—but it’s my conclusion, as president of the United States, that we can’t resolve the problems here. We’ll do what we can to help you, but we can’t do it with our military forces. As a matter of fact, while we’ve been here, the Taliban have grown stronger, and we don’t know where al-Qaida is—we think they’re in Pakistan—but having our troops in Afghanistan is not going to help that. So it’s our judgment that the best thing for us, and maybe for you, is for you to take over the handling of your own problems.”

With control of the White House and Congress during the Bush years, where was their support for a plan ? Bush never offered a plan for one. There was unlimited funds for his occupations but not for Americans. If 45,000 die each year from having no insurance, then he and his colleagues are responsible, for nearly half a million lives lost which in itself is a crime of humanity.
The Dems brought about Medicare, government run assistance. Now they will make history with health care for all Americans. Does the Republican party want to be the party left out once more doing whats right for the American people ? No, and that's why they are against it now. They will never recoup from this for a long time and that's why they blatantly lie about what this bill represents.
It will not be perfect, but lives will be saved. Isn't that more important rather than who's plan it is ?
As a addendum to this, I believe both party's and the president screwed this up from the get go. They should have just called it Medicare Extended, it would have saved a ton of money and opposition since the present system works, and the uninsured would have been added to it.
And lastly, every senator/congressman who will vote on this bill, I urge you to look who backs them in their campaigns. When you see who receives money from the insurance lobbyists, you'll know who their allegiance is too. If you like being left behind by some self appointed bum who wouldn't be worth a dime if they had not sold their soul to the almighty dollar, most of which is in offshore accounts so they avoid paying taxes, (very patriotic of them) then you keep believing they represent you and not the real owners of this country, big corporations.
Welcome to the real world.

And after a couple of years from now when the president is up for re-election and he can debate them on the failure of it and the money the industry is making from it along with the millions of uninsured and those who have died because they were denied coverage, that should pretty much seal a landslide for Dems all around in 2012.

Every time I see a video like this from so many different parts of the country I am frightened that there are so many misled or ignorant people out there.
These are the ones who believe in the Bush's and Cheney's who dodged wars and find fault with The Kerry's and Gores who enlisted. This is truly worrisome.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky called for expanding the tax deduction on health care costs for employers to """"""include individual taxpayers"""""" -- what the Republicans call equalized tax treatment -- and limiting medical malpractice lawsuits that he said drive up the cost of medical care.

Sure, same old tax, tax, tax. I don't even believe they have to tax the wealthy. My belief is these con artists don't know a freaking thing about how to do anything but tax, tax, tax.
With scrutiny on the lives of every politician, (in the old days we knew who was boinking who, it was just kept out of the news, but today's media is hungry for "The National Enquirer" $$ so they delve into them like paparazzi do to celebs) so the people who should be in office and fixing these problems are on the sidelines laughing their arses off at these incompetent dooshbags.

Used to see Pure Prairie League at Dodd's in West Orange, and many bands at Mothers in Wayne.
Yep, some great memories from back then.

They were the first to chime in, they are the ones who will get the return favors from the Dem party.
The usual political blackmail.

you can see, since Obama was elected that he is being set up by the agencies we hear little of, like the ones that did in JFK and new ones coming to light lately that Cheney supervised. I fear for Obama's safety, I believe they are laying the groundwork with these little incidents for a bad outcome in a couple of years. Like Oswald, someone will need to be the patsy.

Congress should pass a law that everyone afflicted with this horrible illness should have a personal nurse to make sure they take their daily meds.

I've always felt the same at the loss of a relative or significant persons from my youth up to the present who depart.
I feel a piece of myself is taken and gone forever. Nice to know the same sentiment is felt by others.
Thanks for your post.

As a writer I found myself watching the news, movies and Yankee games for quite a good portion of the day. With a couple
of projects in the making, about five weeks ago I turned the set off. I was getting frustrated with the spin from every
news station and I decided I was going to put 100% of my attention toward my writing. When I'm not writing, I read constantly.
After the first few days I was sort of getting withdrawal symptoms, I felt I was going to miss something worthy, not be up on the
latest, however they subsided with each passing day. So it's been five weeks and to my surprise I have no urge to watch one bit.
I may at some point decide to watch a game since I have to rest from sitting up since my back surgery but I prefer reading for ideas
with which to write about.
Anyone else ever stop watching ? For what reasons ? Have you gone back ?
Just wondering.

We have great insurance from our company, yet their dental plan is useless.
I'm in the process of having the same done right now, however this is just the start.
After the braces come of, which are to align my bite for the same reason, I have to get three
implants and then after 14 veneers. The braces have been on for almost a year now and the work after
will take at least three years more. All out of pocket. Serious money, all told, about $75 large.
Oh, I forgot about the particulate bone augmentation I needed to build up one side of the upper jaw for
an implant to work.
As for the Invisalign braces, I got the old style ones as they do a better and faster job of it and cost a bit less.
All this after I went to two a-holes in NJ who pulled teeth, put in implants three weeks later against my wishes, I researched
the process and said they should heal for at least 6 months before placing them and was told that was not the case. Well, I went to
the NJDA and got my money back. I could have sued but I don't believe in that, so I went the polite way and the system worked for me.
If you need any advice, just send an email, I'd be glad to help. I have a 4 DDS team in NY who work on the rich and famous. I was shown
pics of celebs, CEO's & others, many fly in from over seas just for these guys.
Hope it works out for you.
