I'm Too Tall for my Hair

Todays Guardian newspaper has a headline story about a report produced by senior officers within the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Britain that advises a pullout of troops in Iraq with a redeployment to Afghanistan, mainly due to overstretched armed forces being asked to do too much with limited resources.

Des Browne, an MoD minister had a hissy fit on the BBC radio lunchtime radio show 'The World at One' rubbishing the report and denying that UK forces were overstretched, the outlook was rosy and we must stay the course. He said:
My view, and military commanders share this view, is that we have a vital job to do in Iraq. We have a responsibility to the Iraqi people.
There is no division between us and military commanders about what we are doing at the moment

Even though the report was produced by long-serving professionals and have actually served in Afghanistan and Iraq seems to have been lost on Mr. Browne. So military necessity takes a back seat to political expediency yet again. This is Orwellian English for 'supporting the troops', all because the spineless chickenhawks can't strand the thought of a few days adverse headlines in the tabloids.
