I could only listen to the first half, so pardon me if she does a 180 in the middle.

The criticism here is totally justified. She portayed a totally one sided view of how this is being handled. The environment in this country is totally polluted. The Republicans are very much analagous to the oil spill itself. They keep polluting and polluting and polluting. You have all of these assholes talking about why Obama is doing such a horrible job of cleaning up after their own mess. Obamas biggest fault is that he can not just snap his fingers and make all of the past presidents fuckups just go away. Why doesn't Selma spend some time talking about how deregulating the oil industry's safety measures have lead to this to begin with. Why doesn't she talk about how the last administration set the groundwork for something like this to happen? Why doesn't she rant about how, at the same time that this is happening, the Republicans are fighting as hard as they can to keep limits in place for damages? Why doesn't she rant about how the same regions that are getting hit hard are begging for more drilling before the body is even cold. If she wants to demonstrate the viewpoint of an ignorant teabagger, she is hitting the nail on the head.

In short, Selma is ranting about all of the things that just about everybody at DU have been railing about for as long as I can remember. It is like have a group of people talk about how your house should have a fire alarm and as soon as your catches fire, yelling at the fireman about how he is doing a terrible putting your fire out. Then ranting to all of the people who were arguing for the fire alarm to be installed in the first place and telling them how bad it is to be homeless. It is not that this is a lynch mob, but more like people reacting to being given the blame after spending their time fighting against what caused this to begin with. When you have somebody putting the blame on the person who is stuck with the job of fixing the catastrophe and not saying anything about the people who caused it, it should not be a shock to you that you will not get alot of support. If this is such an easy thing to fix, why doesn't the company who specializes is in this type of catastrophe already have it fixed?

However, it is not clear that the housefire killed the man. "People die in their homes all of the time", according to Michele WhatTheFucksky, who indicated that the man's charcoaled body in his burnt down house is probasbly a coincidence. There really is no evidence to show that the man's death had anything to do with the house fire.

This thread should be referenced somewhere in the Pro-PRT websites. Maybe it should be referenced in the anti-PRT sites as well as an example of how "NOT TO" make your case. It was a really interesting conversation involving parties from both sides and a real demonstration of how each side approached the discussion. The anti-PRT side really did focus on fear, smearing, easily disprovable claims and could not answer even the simplest question of "What supports your point of view? Make your case". The Pro-PRT side had multiple people just chomping at the bit to explain in clear detail their viewpoints, debate the issue and even explain what the downsides are.

You are clearly passionate about this cause and are almost to point of being embarrassed about writing in such detail about it. That is passion.... you can talk intelligently ad infinitem and can support your case with sound reasoning. The same applies to Mr_Grant. In fact, I think that some of it rubbed off on me now and I was not really emotionally attached to this topic at the start. In fact, my initial post was really a result of being insulted intellectually and I did not really care that much either way. Avidor, on the other hand, has put in 3 years in taking the anti-PRT position and behaves as if the Silver Bullet is to scare, smear and make sure the truth is kept hidden. He should realize that that is a red flag to anybody who has not already decided on their position. He was put on the spot in a number of places and could have easily defended himself if he had the facts on his side. The absense of that makes the anti-PRT side look sketchy in my book. You even listed several facts that could easily be disputed if they were false.

I recently saw this video in somebody's tagline and it really blew my mind. The visuals in this video really do an amazing job of putting things into perspective when comparing the income of the average American to that of the richest people in the country.

FWIW, I have enjoyed being a member of DU for over a year, have over a 1000 posts (amazing for me) and yet, this is my first posted video. It is just that good.

So the guy is in one seat and his carry on is in a not very convenient location. He might be upset, he may complain to the person next to him.....maybe. Then he sits down and the flight begins. How does he disturb you for a 5-6 hour flight? If you get your own way, you are way more inconvenienced by having the flight turn around. Seems to be unclear thinking to me.

I think that you are confusing a customer who does not love the way the airline treats him with a person who is a threat. Maybe you just want to make a statement about how hard airline employees work. The reality is that most airlines suck! Customer service is abysmal. There are some airlines that should fail because of their lousy service and they will just blame it on the economy. The reality is that some of the airlines that I have flown on just are horrible to their customers. Yet, there is still a clear difference between a customer who is not happy with the airline and one who is trying to hijaak or blow up a plane. If I am sitting in row 5 and the airline hostess wants my overhead bags to be 20 rows behind me (for example) I will not be in a rosy mood. I might even get into an argument with the stewardess, but that does not make me a terrorist. Based on most airlines that I have flown on, the stewardess will not act professionally toward me. That is just the crappy level of customer service that you get on airlines today.

Be afraid, Chuck Norris will find you and make you pay for your blasphemy. Sadly, there are a few things that you apparently did not know about Chuck Norris...

- If you can see Chuck Norris, he can see you. If you can't see Chuck Norris you may be only seconds away from death.
- Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that's why there are no signs of life there.
- When Chuck Norris had surgery, the anesthesia was applied to the doctors.
- There is no such thing as tornados. Chuck Norris just hates trailer parks.
- Chuck Norris doesn't worry about changing his clock twice a year for daylight savings time. The sun rises and sets when Chuck tells it to
- Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
- Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.
- Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.
- When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.

Consider yourself warned.
