I could only listen to the first half, so pardon me if she does a 180 in the middle.

The criticism here is totally justified. She portayed a totally one sided view of how this is being handled. The environment in this country is totally polluted. The Republicans are very much analagous to the oil spill itself. They keep polluting and polluting and polluting. You have all of these assholes talking about why Obama is doing such a horrible job of cleaning up after their own mess. Obamas biggest fault is that he can not just snap his fingers and make all of the past presidents fuckups just go away. Why doesn't Selma spend some time talking about how deregulating the oil industry's safety measures have lead to this to begin with. Why doesn't she talk about how the last administration set the groundwork for something like this to happen? Why doesn't she rant about how, at the same time that this is happening, the Republicans are fighting as hard as they can to keep limits in place for damages? Why doesn't she rant about how the same regions that are getting hit hard are begging for more drilling before the body is even cold. If she wants to demonstrate the viewpoint of an ignorant teabagger, she is hitting the nail on the head.

In short, Selma is ranting about all of the things that just about everybody at DU have been railing about for as long as I can remember. It is like have a group of people talk about how your house should have a fire alarm and as soon as your catches fire, yelling at the fireman about how he is doing a terrible putting your fire out. Then ranting to all of the people who were arguing for the fire alarm to be installed in the first place and telling them how bad it is to be homeless. It is not that this is a lynch mob, but more like people reacting to being given the blame after spending their time fighting against what caused this to begin with. When you have somebody putting the blame on the person who is stuck with the job of fixing the catastrophe and not saying anything about the people who caused it, it should not be a shock to you that you will not get alot of support. If this is such an easy thing to fix, why doesn't the company who specializes is in this type of catastrophe already have it fixed?
