I was talking to a right winger I used to work with the other day.

She makes about 40-50K and was crying about how taxes are destroying her and she can't afford anything. She is republican to the core.

Here is why she can't afford anything:

1. She takes vacations out of the country at least twice a year.
2. She bought WAY too much house.
3. She uses credit cards for everything.
4. She bought a new car - and bought too much car for her income.
5. She has no savings to speak of, nor does she make any attempt to save.

FYI - when I say "bought" above that means "financed".

She is in debt up to her neck.

Who's fault is it though? Everyone else other than her.

This is the common theme I notice among those who are so unhappy with Obama. It's HIS fault they are in massive debt. It's his fault their financial lives are in chaos.

Funny these people want to talk about personal responsibility, but have none themselves.

Me thinks though dost protest too much....

"With uncharacteristic bluntness, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke warned Congress on Wednesday that the United States could soon face a debt crisis like the one in Greece, and declared that the central bank will not help legislators by printing money to pay for the ballooning federal debt.

Recent events in Europe, where Greece and other nations with large, unsustainable deficits like the United States are having increasing trouble selling their debt to investors, show that the U.S. is vulnerable to a sudden reversal of fortunes that would force taxpayers to pay higher interest rates on the debt, Mr. Bernanke said.

"It's not something that is 10 years away. It affects the markets currently," he told the House Financial Services Committee. "It is possible that bond markets will become worried about the sustainability , and we may find ourselves facing higher interest rates even today."

It was some of the toughest rhetoric to date about the nation's fiscal and budgetary woes from the Fed chief, who faces a second round of questioning Thursday before a Senate panel."

Something I just noticed T-mobile is now advertising on it's phone page.... "Equipment Financing". Now apparently if you can't afford your cell phone you can finance it.

Is there anything you CAN'T finance in this country anymore? We finance our education, medical bills, consumer goods purchases, cars, homes, appliances.... and now cell phones have their own special financing plans.

All with borrowed money from China....

It seems to me that a large number of people here are completely out of touch with the poor, but LOVE to speak for them.

Perfect example of someone who has NO idea what it is like to be poor but likes to make claims for them. A poster on another thread LITERALLY said "Most people who make 10K have employer based coverage I presume". This is obviously someone who had mom and dad pay for college, never worked a low wage job, and went straight in to a professional job after college. Then an actual debate started about rather or not that was true.

How out of touch exactly does someone have to be to think someone making 10K a year (these are McDonalds, Walmart, Target, Burger King, Pizza Hut, etc workers folks) are getting health care? At Sonic, for example, employees get a plan called "Value-care" (I shit you not) that doesn't pay for more than a simple doctor visit. At Target (which I worked at for several years) an employee has to be full time in order to get coverage. (99% of non-management employees get scheduled less than that and have no benefits) After 2 years of working at Target part time they can get a reduced coverage plan, which has a low lifetime limit and doesn't cover much more than a doctors visit.

If this bill passes with the backing of folks this clueless that actually believe people making 10K a year actually HAVE health care coverage there is going to be a MAJOR backlash next election.

The main focus of this article involves the riots going on in Geneva over the WTO. Here is a little interesting detail....

"WTO called the meeting of its 153 members to examine major issues at a time when global exports are falling rapidly and the WTO's long-sought Doha liberalization round is limping into its ninth year."

But gee I thought we were in a recovery? Now the WTO is having a special meeting on how to fix the problem. How interesting.
