Veek's Journal
Posted by Veek in Al Gore Group
Sat Oct 13th 2007, 09:26 PM
I posted this elsewhere, and would like to repeat myself here:

I so admire Al Gore -- I'd follow him almost anywhere. A scholar, a statesman, a
leader, a real person. But Gore can't and won't run for president, at least not in 2008.
The press and right wing noise machine would make him look opportunistic, using the
Nobel prize honor to advance his political career.

Although Al can walk and chew gum at the same time unlike the amoeba who
now calls himself president, any number of urgent national problems
would fracture his attention to the climate emergency. If not mired in petty, daily political
wrangling, Gore as free agent can maneuver adeptly and convert into reality his longtime cause
to avert a total planetary disaster. There's no single person who has as much credibility as
Gore on the climate issue. Who else could effectively turn the international community's
attention to global warming as first among all issues?

Besides, the current Democratic field is strong. There's no real niche for Gore, and
he'd have to compete with the rest of the field. He wouldn't automatically win the
nomination. In fact, he can't win the nomination. Note - not being president
in no way diminishes Gore. Has being president in any way enhanced George
W. Bush's prestige?

Sadly, I must remove the Draftgore.com sticker from my car bumper.....tomorrow.
