Occupy ABQ Protest Not Slowing Down October 10th, 2011 at 6:25 pm by johnnychandler under News, News Briefs, Photos The “Occupy ABQ” protestors at a meeting Monday night at Yale Park on UNM Campus. The University of New Mexico has told the protesters they must leave campus at 10 p.m. The protesters can come back to campus at 7 a.m. daily. News 13 reporter Katie Kim is at the protest and will be live on KRQE News 13 at Ten to see how the protesters react to the stipulations set by UNM. I think anyone can call to support the protester's right to stay in the park. Public opinion helps. You can always mention that you're an alumnus.. if that's honest, I mean. Showing up at midnight was kind of a low blow.
Messages can also be left on the UNM Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/universityofnewme... ................................... ACTION TODAY ! OCT 10th 30 APD and UNMPD officers showed up at midnight to kick Occupy ABQ out. Tell everyone to call the number below - all your friends, their friends, and other protesters in other cities. Call UNM's President's Office ASAP and let him know that they should be able to stay and should not have been kicked out! Please! Here's a sample script if anyone needs one -- "My name is ________ and I am a student/member of the community and I would like to leave a message for the President. I am a supporter of the Occupy Albuquerque Movement and feel they should be allowed to return to UNM's campus to continue their work for America with the 890 cities across the country." Short simple and to the point -- that's all we need! Spread this as fast as you can! Email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. ![]() I just heard from a couple of people on Facebook:
"BURQUE IS NOW OCCUPIED! CAMP SITE AT CENTRAL AND UNIVERSITY" They have an occupation site, where some are camping out. It's at the corner of University & Central, on the corner of the UNM campus. Every night at 6pm there is an assembly where they decide what they'll do, and where, on the following day. Yesterday I heard there were about a hundred people. Small but organic, they're trying to use the NY model of consensus etc. I think it's mostly students from UNM so far, but am not sure. The Facebook link is public -- I don't think you need to have a FB account to see it. https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=181... This woman effectively died from end-stage Hodgkin's lymphoma, had a kind of NDE and came back, made rapid & full recovery. Inspiring story. Not sure if this is the right place to post but I really recommend watching the interview on the site, she's remarkable.
http://anitamoorjani.com/?page_id=159 This is the original NDE description that Anita Moorjani submitted to The Near Death Research Foundation in August 2006. The owner of the site, Dr. Jeffrey Long, an oncologist, contacted Anita within hours of her submitting it, asking follow up questions, which are below the the experience description. Shortly after, this story went viral, spreading to hundreds of thousands of people all over the world via email. EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION: I had end stage cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma), and was being cared for at home. I was connected to an oxygen tank, and had a full time nurse. But on this morning, February 2nd 2006, I did not wake up. I had fallen into a coma. My husband called my doctor who said I needed to be rushed to hospital. The senior oncologist looked at me and told my husband that it was now the end, and that my organs were now shutting down. I would probably not make it beyond the next 36 hours. However, the oncologist said he would do whatever he could but prepared my husband that I would most likely not make it, as my organs were no longer functioning. They determined this because my body started to swell up, and I had open skin lesions. They started me on a cocktail of medication on a drip, and poked me with tubes and pipes for nourishment, drugs and oxygen. Academic turns city into a social experiment: Mayor Mockus of Bogotá and his spectacularly applied theory Antanas Mockus had just resigned from the top job of Colombian National University. A mathematician and philosopher, Mockus looked around for another big challenge and found it: to be in charge of, as he describes it, "a 6.5 million person classroom." Mockus, who had no political experience, ran for mayor of Bogotá; he was successful mainly because people in Colombia's capital city saw him as an honest guy. With an educator's inventiveness, Mockus turned Bogotá into a social experiment just as the city was choked with violence, lawless traffic, corruption, and gangs of street children who mugged and stole. It was a city perceived by some to be on the verge of chaos. People were desperate for a change, for a moral leader of some sort. The eccentric Mockus, who communicates through symbols, humor, and metaphors, filled the role. When many hated the disordered and disorderly city of Bogotá, he wore a Superman costume and acted as a superhero called "Supercitizen." People laughed at Mockus' antics, but the laughter began to break the ice of their extreme skepticism. ![]() 'Knowledge,' said Mockus, 'empowers people. If people know the rules, and are sensitized by art, humor, and creativity, they are much more likely to accept change.' (Photo by Gerardo Chaves/El Tiempo) ![]() Another Mockus inspiration was to ask people to call his office if they found a kind and honest taxi driver; 150 people called and the mayor organized a meeting with all those good taxi drivers, who advised him about how to improve the behavior of mean taxi drivers. The good taxi drivers were named "Knights of the Zebra," a club supported by the mayor's office. I know this was posted earlier on DU, but can't find it --

Sat Dec 11th 2010, 07:40 AM I recently bought a book from Prentiss Books, via Amazon.com. That was before the Wiki thing. So when they asked me for feedback I wrote this:
Seller was great & book is wonderful. * re Amazon: I’m sad they’re not supporting Wikileaks. WL is not trying to undermine America. They’re only illuminating Cheat and Deceit in govt & corporations. Truth & beauty are much more attractive than cheat and deceit. If Amazon took a stand for honesty in America business would thrive.. "He is clearly brilliant and is a very deep thinker", remarked Victoria. "What is important to those outside of his circle of family and friends is what he has DONE. And that is absolutely heroic and epochal", Caleb pointed out. http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/12/3/73... |
