My DU Contributions
I am proud of Barack Obama.
He has really come from no where to being an inspiring figure for a new generation. His powerful message is undeniably moving. And it has given rise to his nomination in this race. He has proved to be politically savvy -- extraordinarily charismatic -- and genuine.

My candidate did not win this -- and that's really a heart felt let down, I have to say. I think it's important to understand that Hillary has real support and a lot of passion has went into her campaign and her message. She is an historical figure herself and it's unfortunate that we have allowed politics -- which have mostly been fueled, even created by the media -- to get in the way of our perspective here. Her campaign had missteps along the way; this is certain. She had to keep going when everyone wanted her to stop. She is the first woman to ever see the possibility -- the real chance of being Commander in Chief of this amazing country. Sexism is still alive even if people on this board and the media don't want to admit it. No it's not necessarily as easy to pick out as some other forms of discrimination. It's not always blatant and it's not always violent. But it's there -- and it's on the lips of every political commentator who doesn't understand how to find a woman worthy of office -- and in the mind of every man who has a problem, even if only somewhere deep inside, with a woman being President. I hope -- I hope that we can really just accept the extraordinary work of Hillary Rodham Clinton. No matter what you think of her -- no matter what you believe, she has reached heights that women just aren't supposed to reach. I applaud her -- and I do not at all regret my support for her nomination.

But with all of that said, this is now about Barack Obama.

He will receive my full support. We cannot afford another Republican in office. John McCain is a disaster that could happen if we do not unite behind our candidate.

As I listened to Barack speak the other night, I realized just how amazing this guy really is. He has defied all odds and has won. He speaks as if he really wants to talk to America -- not just at them. He seems like a genuinely good guy. And I am excited about what he will bring to the office. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time that there will be a President in office who will truly consider the American people before making decisions impacting the American people. I am glad to see a Presidential candidate elected by young people -- because it is young people who will be responsible for this mess that has been left by George W. Bush. Barack represents a movement toward coming home and healing. We need somebody to heal this country.

His first act as the new leader of the Democratic Party was to kick lobbyists out of DNC fund raising. It's nice to see action being taken. It's nice to see someone step in and take charge. Barack Obama is in General Election mode -- and I am proud to have him as the leader of my party -- and as my candidate for President of the United States of America.

This is our opportunity.

peace.
