The latest threat to election integrity is the push towards Internet Elections. Last year, a group called Democrats Abroad held their Presidential primary for overseas voters on the internet. The Democratic Party accepted the results. Recently a town in Hawaii conducted a municipal election over the internet. Other states are considering testing internet voting first with overseas military voters. You would think either the White Hat Hackers or Black Hat Hackers would glom all over this. Of course, the computer scientists from the e-voting community are speaking out, but what about the guys out in the "wild"? Imagine an internet election where all of a sudden one of the winners is a character from a popular movie?

We in the verified voting community are concerned about overseas voters, but we have safer ways to enfranchise them.

America's Newest State Holds America's Newest Election

...America's newest state, our southernmost state, has a different idea. Right now, as you read this article on the Internet, citizens of Honolulu are voting in America's first all-digital online and telephone election. Residents of neighborhoods with contested board seats received pass-codes in the mail, along with a Web address and a phone number allowing them to vote at any time, day or night, from anywhere in the world.

While I typed that paragraph, two people just voted. They may have just gotten home from work, or they may be at school, in the library, or even overseas. Someone else will vote at 3:00 am in his pajamas. And all of their votes are being secured using military-grade encryption technology: faster, more reliable, and more secure than if they had voted on paper....

The US Govt tried to set up a pilot to have overseas/military voters cast ballots over the internet.
Computer scientists fought it and defeated it.

Since votes must be secret (no one must be able to tell how a particular voter cast their ballot), and since transparency is
very important, as well as auditability, how can internet voting be safe.

Why hasn't the hacker world said anything at all about this?

How can internet voting possibly be safe and secure?
