Barack Obama is going to be the next President of the United States.
It's okay to say it, it isn't going to jinx anything.
You can stop biting your nails in worry and stop fretting over the daily ups and downs of the polls, Obama IS going to win.
"Whoa there buddy, let's not get overly confident", you say. "All it takes is a Willie Horton episode or a Bin Laden tape and we could be on the losing side again."
To that I say, "No, We ARE going to WIN."

Look at 2004. John Kerry - a fine Senator and great guy but not exactly known for being telegenic and charismatic goes against a sitting President during a war. Two wars in fact.
At the same time the media was blatantly in the pocket of the Right, down playing, if not ignoring, stories damaging to the Republicans while going out of their way to find dirt on Kerry. Hmm which is newsworthy, windsurfing or outing a CIA agent...
Plus there were millions of dollars spent on coordinated smears on Kerry. Unfit for Command the book. The ads. The endless TV interviews.
We were outspent by $50 million dollars. Bin Laden did release a tape days before the election which even the CIA says was designed strategically to help President Bush win reelection.
But it was close. With all that going against us four years ago, without the shenanigans in Ohio we nearly won.

Things are different now.

Obama is generating more excitement than any politician in a generation. So much so that the other side is trying to make it sound like it's a bad thing to draw big crowds.
New voters are registering at record rates. And they are registering 3 to 1 Democratic.
Obama won't be outspent, he has 2.5 million donors and over $70 million cash on hand. And nearly every month he's breaking new records on how much he raises.

McCain on the other hand is openly disliked by a large segment of his own party. Rush Limbaugh, the Right's biggest cheerleader (though he has slimmed down) has openly said he doesn't really want McCain to win.
You've read how at McCain-Palin rallies folks are leaving now when Palin finishes and introduces McCain. He might have fired up the wing nut side of his party with the VP pick but it's becoming obvious he's lost most fence sitters with the Alaskan version of Bush (my wife says Palin is like a dumb Bush with boobs)
Everyday McCain looks older and older and every time he talks to the press there is a new gaffe. And that's the most amazing difference in this election compared to four years ago, the press is reporting it when McCain puts his foot in his mouth. Hell it seems they're looking for him to screw up - the Blackberry story is the perfect example.

Historically voters trust Democrats more on economic issues and what's the lead story everyday this week? Ask that conservative uncle or co-worker how his 401K has done with 8 years of a republican in the White House. Before you you argue that the headlines could change anytime and favor McCain, note one of our embassies was attacked in Yemen this week. It made the news, but it didn't dominate the headlines nor did it give McCain a bounce.

No, we got this one. We ARE going to win, you can get comfortable saying President Barack Obama.

Say it and smile but don't get too comfortable.
It still isn't enough to just win. A slim victory won't do.
We need a 60+ seat majority in the Senate.
We need realignment
We need so many House seats to go our way that Republicans start moving to the left in fear that they'll be the next to be retired.
We need a landslide, a mandate for Obama so he can get to work fixing this mess because once the rats have been kicked out, it's going to be apparent how big of a sh*tpile they've left behind.
We need a new map with slivers of Red in a vast sea of Blue on election night.

So we need you to stop worrying that the republicans are somehow going to take it - they can't if you get to work.
Stop worrying others are too bigoted to vote for a black man and register 5 new people who realize this election is too important to be decided by idiots blathering about Paris Hilton and pigs in lipstick
Stop worrying that the media is going to let you down and go help out at your local campaign office.

And keep practicing saying President Obama.
