This fall, students around the country returned to schools that are woefully underfunded and sometimes literally falling apart. As Washington debates how to reduce the deficit by $1.2 trillion, further cuts to education are on the table. Meanwhile, we’re spending $60 billion a year on useless, dangerous nuclear weapons.
Oscar-nominated actress Naomi Watts and former CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson have joined forces with Global Zero in asking our leaders to cut nukes, not things we really need – like education.
A special House-Senate “super committee” must make recommendations on how to cut the budget by November 23rd and they need to hear that we expect them to cut nuclear weapons first. Help us spread the word by sharing the video with your friends and ‘recommend’ it on Facebook:
Watch Naomi and Valerie’s exclusive video for Global Zero and pass it on:
Valerie and Naomi are both mothers and active supporters of Global Zero. They want to make sure that children across the nation have access to the best education – and that they live in the safest possible world.
Nuclear weapons are the greatest threat to our civilization. They also eat up precious economic resources in the midst of a global economic crisis. A recent Global Zero study showed that governments plan to spend $1 trillion globally on these Cold War relics in the next ten years. Meanwhile, much needed services – like education, health care and job creating initiatives – are on the chopping block.
As the budget debate heats up, we must remind our leaders that if “everything is on the table,” we should start by cutting nukes. Please watch the video and share it with your friends:
