The son of the late U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy says he won’t run for the seat held by retiring Connecticut U.S. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, I-Conn., because he wants to spend more time with his two children.

WFSB-TV reports that Edward M. Kennedy Jr., a Branford resident, made the statement at the JKF Legacy Dinner on Tuesday night. The event marks the 50th anniversary of the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy.

“It’s something I’ve thought a lot about, and I think at this point in time, I’ll have to say that I think I’ll have to wait before I make the plunge into a campaign,” Kennedy told the TV station.
