We are fed and entertained, we got gas in the car and cable TV, what more do ya need? Politics are something you can throw some dollars at and blow off some steam on the internets. Although we are somewhat aware it is not part of our daily lives.
These immigrants, their daily lives are threatened so they act. As it was during Nam, when getting drafted could really fuck up your day.
Such is the trick of controlling the masses, bread and circuses, leavened with a generous dose of propaganda. The dictum that things won't get better until they get worse seems to apply.
We were on a birding/reptile hunting trip in May of 2002 in Panama. It had been a very productive trip, saw and caught all kinds of cool stuff. The only kink was that one of the guys my bud had invited along from his neck of the woods was a bit of an ass. We had set out to road hunt the area north of Limon when my friend who was driving started acting out of it. He has type 1 & 2 diabetes. When we got him into the back seat he started to have a bad seizure. I was scared as hell, not knowing what to do. The ass, who was a Sheriffs Deputy for Maricopa Co Az said, "I know what to do, I'm a first responder!" So he go out my bud's kit and gave him a shot of insulin! He came around for a bit then sunk into oblivion. We were driving like hell toward Panama City when we spotted a rural clinic along the side of the road. The folks had barely more English than we had Spanish but with effort we got him into the exam room where it was found that his blood sugar was 16! They put him on a glucose drip. The clinic was barely equipped but those folks saved my friend's life. The cost of their services came to about three dollars. Because he had no insurance he was transferred a hospital for the indigent in Panama City which was something like a Civil War field hospital. During his seizure he broke his tail bone and fractured 2 vertebra. What a fucking nightmare.
Epilogue: The ass is no longer in public service but a rent-a-cop. My bud is still recovering but after two horrid years feels human more often than not. And you can bet your ass that I know what to do in case of any diabetes related problems!
That the bu$hi$ta$ hate the Endangered Species Act is understood by all but the brain dead. The degree of this hatred is still shocking when put in numbers. That steward of America's treasures, Gail Norton, managed to list 39 species during her tenure. All 39 were listed due to court order, so if they had their way none would have been listed! This compares with 512 species listed by the Clinton administration and 234 species listed in the time of George I.
There are currently 283 species on the candidate list. The average wait is 14 years, all the while the species' predicaments go from bad to worse. Yet the bu$hi$ta$ would do nothing. At least 42 species of plants and animals have gone extinct during delays in the process to list them. There are now 31 more species on the candidate list than when bu$h took office.
