People here have excused people's involvement in the military "because the people have no choice" (because of education, circumstance, etc).
I think that everyone does have a choice - and it's hard for me to figure out why anyone would think that the military is the best choice anyway.
One reason - though - is that if people think that the military gives people status. So that is what I think this comes down to. Should people (including politicians who are not running for anything) pretend that people in the military deserve special status for being in the military or not?
Some people think that they do - some don't. If you think that the whole war and the military is fucked up - then you don't.
The reason that the military is fucked up - is because of Bush.
If the military were a small, truly defensive force - it would be a different story. But it isn't.
I think a lot of people are in denial or refuse to speak the truth about it. I think Kerry touched a nerve - because he is getting too close to the truth.
