gamma radiation is a photon and cannot make food radioactive because the energy is insufficient

for something to become radioactive it has to be unstable nucleus

think of water which has hydrogen and oxygen

water has stable hydrogen for it to become radioactive you have to add a neutron to the hydrogen to make deuterium which is unstable and is radioactive

a neutron is 0.1 nm in size vs a photon which is infinitely smaller (it has no mass)

the only possible way for gamma radiation to make a nucleus unstable is to knock out a neutron by exceeding the binding energy of the neutron

hydrogen, which has the lowest binding energy for its neutron of all the elements, requires 2 million electron volts to lose its neutron

the two isotopes used for food irradiation are cobalt 60 and cesium 137 the peak for co-60 is 1.3 Mev and for cs-137 the peak is 0.662 Mev

so the gammas dont have enough energy to make anything radioactive

Specifically, when people propose more regulation in order to "protect" the little guy. The more I think about it, the more it becomes apparent that this is probably the worst thing you can do if that's your goal. The best thing you can do is have a free market.

As proof I offer the following video of a 1959 Chevy Bel-Air, built when corporations were able to build a solid vehicle without worrying about pollution controls or improving mileage by reducing vehicle weight, crashing head on into a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu.

It is interesting how Republican led financial policy of financial deregulation led to 1. the financial bubble, 2. the crisis under their watch and 3. the WEF deranking.

So then this GOP-Gingrich led group blames the deranking on Obama's government intervention to mitigate the fallout (which has worked and saved millions of jobs). But if it worked or not had nothing to do with the reasons cited by the report and Reuters for the deranking. The site they link to http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idU... for the WEF report clearly states that "economies with a large focus on financial services such as the U.S., Britain or Iceland were the losers of the crisis." and that "There are problems on the financial market that we were not aware of before. These countries (like the U.S. and Britain) are getting penalized now".

The policy behind this website is as thin as Kleenex. Apparently Gingrich considers his constituents to be automatons that don't think independantly or ask critical questions.

The site states that a better economic policy is presented here - http://www.americansolutions.com/jobsfirst / but there is nothing at all to address the concerns of the WEF, only more unfunded tax giveaways to the wealthy that grow the debt.

If there ever was a Trojan horse in Washington to destroy Capitalism the GOP is it folks.

We are all the way back to the 1980s when Jim Hansen claimed soot was the cause of glacier melting. No shit. Black shit, albeido, melts away. New snow white more snow more soot back to melt in summer.

But this was not fair to developing nations because US already had the lowest Particulate levels in the developed world and had already passed legislation to reduce further.

Then it was Greenhouse Gases as a whole, then focus on CO2, then Methane was the monster needing most direct curbing. Now with 2008 being a cool year we are back to Black.

In case you do not know who James Hansen is he started with Carbon Black back in 1980s.

It is getting colder, CO2 is still increasing, ice is thickening, and recovering with major increases and James Hansen is saying he saw it all along. Of course this could just be a brief respite.

Even Jim chicken little the sky is falling shows it getting cooler. Look at his graphs and his solar irradiance references at the end of the presentation. He called people that quoted solar irradiance info in the past 10 years deniers.

Again the media doesn’t report when the liars are proven wrong, talk double talk out of both sides of their mouths.

the fact is we don't have enough information to be making predictions as to
1 the cause of global warming
2 the amount of global warming we will have in the next 50 years

how can Obama make sound climate policy if the models show the data we have is not accurate enough? we need better information to make sensible policy

The American Geological Institute (AGI) recently released a report looking at the price of crude oil in relation to the U.S. dollar and the price per ounce of gold. It highlights a fact that probably makes some folks at the Federal Reserve very nervous.

This graph makes it easier to understand:



The bottom purple line is the price of a barrel of crude oil per ounce of gold (if you wanted to use gold to pay for a barrel of oil). As you can see, that line is stable, and has been for the entirety of the graph, which is about 7 years.
The top two lines are the price of oil in relation to currency (blue is the Dollar and the red is the Euro). Those lines show that the cost of oil has been going up in relation to currency only. What this chart makes obvious is that the value of oil has not been increasing in real terms, currency has just been decreasing in value.

To put it another way, if the US Dollar were still based on gold (as it was until Nixon eliminated the Bretton Woods system in 1971), then the price of oil would be just as stable as that purple line in the chart is.

Granted 200 billion isn't that much money but Banks didn't plan on having to borrow this amount and we aren't at the bottom of this economy yet.
