Well, it was funny to me. Mrs. Deadmessengers and I are having a little returns-watching party at the house tonight, and I was over at the store stocking up on snacky-party-type things - chips, dip, salsa, a few frozen fingerfood things, some soda. A guy standing on line behind me says to me - "Having a little victory party for McCain tonight, are you?"

I looked at him, thought about it for a second or two, smiled, and said - "Everyone needs hope, right?"

Subtle snark really is the most satisfying, I tell ya...

Seen this morning, on an SUV doing about 75 in a 55 zone:

"Drive the speed limit, and be free from foreign oil".

Sometimes, I really wish hypocrisy was painful.

Just a friendly word of warning: Local and county police are running frequent "safety check" scams on the roads this summer. Their MO is to set up a roadblock where they pull over and harrass every driver unfortunate enough to be on the road at that moment. Then, they proceed to go over your vehicle and write tickets for anything they can.

I received a ticket this evening from a SWAT officer in full paramilitary gear for a law (valid insurance, but no insurance card) that, as it turns out, was repealed in 2005. I'm fighting it, and I *WILL* win.

In any case, be aware that Cobb County and the cities within the county are trying to fill this year's budget shortfall on the backs of motorists. And, if you get a ticket, don't just roll over and pay, READ THE LAW - you might just save yourself a whole lot of money.

Oh, and, just in case someone else gets shaken down the way I did tonight, OCGA 40-6-10 paragraph 3 repeals the proof-of-insurance requirement for Georgia drivers. You still have to HAVE insurance (and I do), but that little easily-forged piece of paper doesn't prove anything anymore.

In his editorial column in today's Atlanta Journal Constitution, Jim Wooten spewed forth the following blather:

"DaimlerChrysler’s tiny new Smart car is coming to the U.S. from Europe next year. It may be ideal for congested urban streets filled with bicycles and motor scooters, but micro-cars shouldn’t be allowed on interstates, where there are big cars and trucks, without an SUV escort."

Any comment I would make would be almost entirely superfluous. The idiocy speaks for itself.

A few weeks ago, I posted here about my slightly unbalanced right-wing co-worker.

His latest outburst: "I can't wait for that fat fuck Ted Kennedy to keel over. I think when he does croak I'll bring my daughter to see his grave, and explain to her why Daddy's taking a leak on it."

Any comment I might make about this would be entirely superfluous.

It seems fairly even-handed - a lot of the time, the MSM isn't too friendly to homeschoolers/unschoolers, but this article isn't too bad: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/26/educatio...
