ALBANY — A 14-year-old boy walking home from school saved the life of a baby who had fallen under the front wheel of a stopped bus that was about to drive off, police said.

Tyler Purvis-Mitchell, of 2 Sard Road, a sports-loving student at Albany Preparatory Charter School, was heading home around 2 p.m. Friday when he saw the 5-day-old baby fall out of his stroller.

“He was under the wheel of the bus and it was getting ready to leave,” Purvis-Mitchell said Saturday. “I ran over and grabbed him.”

He first had to step in front of the bus, he said. The driver saw him in time and stopped.

The child received a cut to his head and some abrasions, police said.
