The scientific discoveries that supercomputers make possible are amazing. Everything from lifesaving drug discoveries to environmental/ green energy technology. The more computing power we have, the better. So when I heard that Obama has set aside 126 million in the budget for next generation exascale computer development, it sounded great, at first. Then I realized, with all the life changing scientific benefits that come as a result of supercomputers, 126 million seems like a ridiculously low amount of funding. 10 billion, or even 100 billion dollars of funding per year seems far more appropriate.

As of right now, that fastest supercomputer is in China and is 2.5 peta flips. The US hopes to reach exascale computing speed (1,000 petaflops) by the year 2018, or 2019 using IBM's new light driven computer processors. (Article Below)

Does anyone else experience frusteration due to how slow and inefficient our government operates...They seem to be under little pressure to accomplish anything...have a ton of days off...I'm sick of it. I wish congress operated 24 hours a day 5 days a week..the reps and senators themselves could be in session during business days..and then their aides, interns...could work and accomplish things during non business hours. Imagine if restaurants operated as slow and inefficient as congress does....It would take weeks, months, maybe even years to be served your food!!

Finally I'd like to express my extreme frusteration to our incredibly passive, ineffective, embarassing democratic party leaders Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. We need aggressive, fiery, intelligent people like Howard Dean and Alan Grayson to be our leaders, not these two clowns!!

Everyone Needs to Be Afraid of Conservative ideology!!!

There are so many people out there that are politically uneducated, or simply don't care about politics. Republicans are so brilliant at winning over these people with their B.S., After 8 years the Bush Administration nightmare, republicans did such a good job of using their brilliant tactics to spread lies...McCain/Palin almost pulled it off!!! I'm so sick and tired of democrats being so laid back, they need to get aggressive and start using the best political tactics that exist...the exact ones the G.O.P. uses.

Here are some simple demoratic political concepts I thought of that need to be repeated over and over....and over again...to drill it in peoples heads whether they care/ understand politics or NOT (like a majority of Americans)



"limited government" only benefits greedy corporations who don't want to follow rules that keep them from taking advantage of people.

Why do financial firms need to be regulated? People attracted to high paying financial jobs by nature like taking risks, and if they screw up bad enough and put the company under, it can kill the economy like it did in 2008 and we get stuck paying for their carelessness.

If you don't like the idea of the government bailing out giant corporations, then large corporations need to be broken up to keep them from getting large enough that they pose a threat to our economy and financial well being if their executives make poor management decisions/ excessive risks.

The federal bail out may not have created jobs, but it defenetly saved some. Imagine if all the employees of bailed out companies lost their jobs, and all the companies that create products used by bailed out companies would have lost business and income which would have resulted in even more job loss. A devastating domino would have resulted.

Conservatives may not like it when insurance companies deny or drop coverage to sick people, including children, but they sure don't seem interested in doing something to solve the problem

If conservatives feel they have the answer to our healthcare crises, why didn't they try to make their version of healthcare reform a major priority when they were in the majority from 2001-2006, instead of simply ignoring the problem and then trying to block democrats attempt to solve the issue?

A lot of people think healthcare reform should be put off and that fixing the economy is the most important issue. The truth is, they are both equally important issues and effort needs to be made to solve both issues simotaneously. What good is it to have a job, home, and savings if you will lose it all if/ when you get sick?? (most people do at some point) A good administration can multi task and work on both at the same time.

Uninsured people are a burden on our healthcare system and our economy. Since they can't afford a doctor, they are forced to seek help at emergency rooms. Such services are far more expensive, and since they can't afford to pay for the services they use, the cost is passed on to insured people through higher rates

the only way insurance companies can afford to cover people that are sick is to make it mandatory that healthy people purchase coverage.

If you think your too young and healthy to need health insurance, all it takes it one quick injury or illness to develop which often requires millions of dollars worth of treatment. Imagine how scared you'd be if you find some strange bumps on your body, or start getting horrible headaches, and you can't afford to see a doctor becuase you didn't think you needed insurance. If they find something and you need expensive treatment, now your family has to go through all their hard earned savings and sell the house just to pay for treatment to keep you alive, becuase you thought you were too young/healthy to need insurance.

You cannot wait until your older or sick to purchase health insurance, just like you can't wait until get into a car accident to buy car insurance and expect them to cover the accident.

A large strong middle class is essential to a healthy economy. The G.O.P. is a threat to the middle class

If a school teachers performance and pay is judged/ based on students grades and test scores, then teachers will spend too much time helping the less intelligent students to pass their tests and intelligent students will be neglected

above average intelligence/ gifted children must be the biggest priority of our educational system. they are the onces that will find solutions to problems and lead us into the next generation/ future.

I've always felt that one of our country's main problem is that we do not stress the importance of science and technology enough, especially in our schools. I feel we need to stress the importance of this far more in both our schools, and television specials. I think getting people more interested/fasinated in this topic would be very easy with some creativity.

As everyone knows, banks are hoarding money right now, reluctant to invest in companies. That may be a method of making the Obama administration look bad, and make conservatives look good. Since banks know they will get more favors with conservatives in power, I'm thinking banks may start to invest after the mid term elections when more conservatives take power, or in a scary scenerio, they may continue to hoard money until 2012 elections, which would keep unemployment high and insure Obama would no be re-elected, then open the flood gates and invest with a newly elected republican president : (

5. Referring to any attempt to keep people from hitting rock bottom as Socialism!!!

6. Not caring if sick and suffering adults and children are denied health care, or go broke and lose their homes trying to pay health care expenses that insurance companies refuse

7. Being corporate whores, that care about the well being of cooporations over induvidual people

8. Forcing all their religious and moral hang-ups on us

I could go on and on.....How could a political pary that supports the above sick, twisted, narrowminded, policies be able to win even a single political office in this country!!!???

I don't know a lot about Pharmaceutical drug development. Heres a few things I do know...

1. A lot of people have been injured or killed by bad Pharmaceutical drugs

2. It takes years and years, and tons of money to bring new drugs on the market due to the strict FDA regulations, that still often fail to protect people

3. People who are terminally ill and have nothing to lose often have extreme difficulty or find it impossible to try experimental and potentially life saving drugs.

So I propose some changes to the system....since people are still injured or killed by bad drugs despite the strict FDA regulations....and since peeople suffering from chronic/ life threatening diseases have to wait years and years for research and development to happen, after reading about a potential drug breakthrough

Why not remove a lot of the regulations and liability the drug companies face which would form a more higher risk/ higher reward Pharmaceutical Drug Industry. It would cost much less and take much less time to bring new drugs on the market which would bring new hope to suffering/terminally ill people

and of course the downsides....

1. People would just have to understand the increased risk of trying new drugs, and consult carefully with their doctor and pharmacist to weigh the potentaial risk and rewards and decide if its worth it.

2. Their would be much less legal options to take if a person is injured or killed by a drug

I would favor a less regulated/ Higher risk and higher reward Pharmaceutical drug indursty. I'm sick and tired of reading about potential amazing drug developments only to read at the bottom of the article that it could take 5-10 years before trails to start on humans

I'm also sick and tired of reading about people with life threatenting diseases who are unable to get the opportunity to try experiemental drugs. This must change!!!!!!!

Gay marriage--Hey you know what, if your against gay marriage, then don't fucking marry someone of the same sex, and if your invited to a gay wedding, politely decline the invitation. But don't tell someone what they can or can't do with their own life. You crazy, morality freak, religious jealot, Jesus obsessed conservatives need to mind your fucking business and stop getting involved with shit that doesn't affect your fucking life!! Instead of donating money to stop gay marriage, why don't you donate money to charity to help people and children with pre-existing life threatening conditions who can't get health care becuase they were denied due to your fucked up corporate loving policies. These conservatives and religious zealots like that Kansas church that protest at soldeirs funerals who hate gay marriage----they really hate themselves becuase they can't stop fantasizing about getting fucked up the ass, or they can't stop getting fucked up the ass!! I think most people who don't want fags to get married, are angry at themselves becuase they are fags themselves!!

My solution for the homeless & high housing costs

Ok, I posted this idea a few weeks ago and it got a lot of criticism. I modified the idea a little and I'm trying again to see what everyone thinks.

Here is a way to provide cheap, private, comfortable housing for the homeless, (or anyone that wants a cheap, small, safe dwelling) Modify those mobile mini metal storage pods so people can live in them (one person per unit). A simple parking space sized metal pod (15 feet X 8 feet X 8'6" high) can be converted into living shelter. All the essensials can easily fit inside (ventilation, a bed, flat screen tv, small stove or hot plate, computer, LED lighting, small energy effieicient heater/AC.
Thousands of these "living "pods" can be put into an energy efficient large multi floor structure, which can be built in a major city near the public transportation hub and grocery stores. Many ammenaties can also be built to provide recreation.....A giant field for recreation with a walking track surrounding it, a swimming pool, gardens, internet cafes...etc....I believe these "pod cities" would work best in cities with warm weather, but they could also be modified for colder cities like New York, Chicago etc...
I believe this would be a good, cheap, efficient, comfortable way to house people who were previously homeless, on welfare, etc...Would also be good for people who can afford more expensive housing but just want to save $$ to spend on other things, like me. Seriously, I'm sick of the large responsibilites/expenses that go along with renting and owning houses and apartments. It costs 50% of my income, or more. I'd rather be out and about and spend a large portion of that money on fun stuff, instead of working my head off simply to afford a place to keep stuff and sleep.

There are a few complications to this plan...Security guards would need to be on duty 24/7. A lot of peole on this forum thought that was insulting, to have security guards on constant patrol through this "mini city." I don't see why. Anytime you have people living in close proximity to another, regardless of whether they're millionaires or bums, you need security!! It might not be possible to put private bathhooms in individual living pods, they would have to be in a locker room arrangement. andnot sure about how difficult it would be for something like this to comply with fire codes. But I think its a good idea and I would not hesitate to live in one of these pods..I think it would be cool!!! Astronauts don't mind living in small spaces, we can do it here on earth too. Unlike astronauts, people in this arrangement would have the luxury of being able to get out and about, anytime they wanted.

We need more cheap, safe, private, efficient housing in every major city and this is a good way to accomplish that goal!!!! I don't see anything insulting or demeaning about this, and as I mentioned several times already, I wouldn't hesitate to live in one.
