but in my opinion that would solve a lot of problems. Entities that do more damage to the common welfare should either be dissolved or their operations should be managed by the public sector. Examples would be in the domain of life's *essentials* - water, food, clothing, shelter, energy, transportation, and dispute/grievance adjudication, to name a few off the top of my head. Those who work to provide these essentials ought to be compensated well for their efforts but there should be no additional profit motive that artificially drives up prices beyond the cost in providing them. Private industry has proven itself a bad steward, willing to harm people and the environment for its own gains. In public hands, citizens have a voice on what is taking place and can influence the system to become self-sustaining and environmentally safe. In private hands, however, these same industries use their "privacy" to block out protests and dissent when the demands would cause a loss in profit. Private enterprise is then at odds with the very means of sustaining life (similar to cancer - a super-cell that is stronger and outlasts any normal type of cell but ends up weakening and killing its host).
But here we are living in an era of "anti-government", the only aggregation of human interest with the sole purpose of making this whole thing we call humanity work in some cohesive way. All other entities are special interest. This is why government *must* work for the people, the common citizenry and all of its sustaining resources. No corporation, no private institute, no religious organization can fulfill the duties we place on *government*. Let's hope the smarter people prevail. If not, let's hope there is intelligent life out there really doing the right things, because at times it really does seem there's bugger here on earth.
