I know it's been said a million times that it's all about the money. But to see it from a different perspective - their shame. They have something to hide. If you look at the actions of these corporations as a collective whole, they display sociopathic behavior with full knowledge that they *know* what they are doing is wrong. Otherwise, they would feel no need to hide anything. As people, we need to steer these companies into a more mature, socially responsible form of behavior. We can start with their primary objective - to make money. Other than the greedy people among us, that is not a person's primary objective for their daily activities. I don't have a silver bullet answer that can compete with "maximize profit". But I can think of better objectives: "to maximize employment", "maximize wages", or just to better humanity and meet the fundamental needs of all persons. Maybe someone else can put it more succinctly.
