"Who is Barack Obama? Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Wichita, Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii. When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to I...

Seriously, this is true. Everybody is constantly asking me if she barked yet and assuring me that she will. She's a beagle, so I don't mind her being quiet. But I have no clue. She only really makes noise while she's asleep, she's almost barked out loud while sleeping. The closest she's come (awake, that is) to barking is on Friday when a telephone repairman was outside and she saw him out the window and raced up the stairs to sit on the landing and growl and make cute poofing sounds. But ...

I am very, very grateful that a top Republican is willing to come out so strongly against the current situation (and the proposed situation) in Iraq. But a top Republican who is seriously considering running for President? I don't know about you, but that makes me nervous. I know that the polls are showing huge numbers of Americans (from all sides of the aisle) that oppose the current handling of the war and even more who oppose the proposed troop surge. And that only feeds into my worry abo...

Not to be cynical or skeptical, but it is something that I've long wondered about. Mostly since Rick Santorum's office stopped receiving anything that wasn't submitted directly through his website. Of course, that was Rick Santorum, but I know he isn't the only one doing that. They all say "Tell Congress this or that NOW!" but does anyone in Congress see them? Will Kennedy's staff print out enough copies to give to all the other critters (and will Brownback's staff -for example- shred and/or...

I got it for my birthday and just finished it. It was hands down one of the best books I've ever read! I couldn't put it down. I was sure I'd like a book with a list of characters that long at the beginning but it would have been a shame to leave any of them out. And I really do like the ending. Anybody read it?

has anyone heard of or written for www.constant-content.com, www.associatedcontent.com, or (Link)? I've found them all on various sites stating that they will pay you for writing articles for them in one way or another. They all requrie PayPal to conduct payments and I don't have a PayPal account. So I was wondering how safe PayPal is, I've heard a bunch of horror stores, and what you all think about the sites. It would be nice to get a few extra dollars by writing but I am investigating to ...

I'm on my second go-round with it and it is an absolutely amazing book. For those who haven't, I definitely recommend it. It is about the mother of Prince Philip (husband of Queen Elizabeth) who was a German princess, a Greek princess, diagnosed as schizophrenic, treated by Freud, thought she was the bride of Christ, started hospitals in Greece during the Balkan Wars, started soup kitchens in Greece during World War II, hid a Jewish family while being constantly harrassed by the Nazis, started...

My sister just told me that she was reading the jacket liner-thingy on Madonna's "GHV2" CD and it said that if you listen to "Erotica" backwards and very slowly you will hear the line "Take your clothes off and never talk to the opposite sex." (Or something like that.) Is this true? And how would one go about doing it? I just don't think it is possible. I asked my sister and her classic answer was "I'm sure there is some thing-a-ma-bob that can do it." So much for that.

Ancestry.com has a free trial for their immigration records until Dec. 31 and I was trying to look up my possible ancestors. I'd also like to look them up other places on the web. I know my ancestors came from Germany, my dad says Bonn. However, my last name is odd and does not come up in any search that I've done. Rumor has it that the spelling was changed at Ellis Island or wherever they came in to the US (kind of like Pennsylvania Deutschland). But how would I know what other spellings t...

A few quick snips... Dr. Steven Porter, the Democratic candidate for the 3rd Congressional District seat, is suing Republican incumbent Rep. Phil English for defamation. “I want to clear my name, set the record straight about my views and restore my credibility in my community and in the academic community at large,” he said. “I would also like to stop Phil English and all other politicians of his ilk from continuing to do this to the American electoral process. It’s a disgrace to our demo...

I almost died laughing! The website for the paper (the Erie Times News of Erie, PA) is kind of whacky and requires registration so the only link I can give is...(Link)/. But I shall now try and post the highlights (within the 4 paragraph limit) for your viewing pleasure. Oh, keep in mind that Tom Ridge is from my hometown, was our U.S. Rep. for a few years (but I was too little to remember how many now), and then was Governor before coming up with the color-coded system homeland securi...

I'm the only one in my family who wasn't born in a summer month...so I've got a lot of birthday buying to do.:freak: I also have trouble deciding what to get my sister, mother and father because personally, I prefer presents and gifts that at least somewhat of a surprise even if it may not be exactly what I wanted. But that might be just me. So I never know if I should get what someone specifically asks for, what they've mentioned before, or something that may not have ever crossed their min...

enough to look up the artist online. I'm 98% sure that is R. Passa... but the rest is tricky. I'll post a pic or two (which probably won't be good enough to really see it any better) but if you have any guesses, please let me know. This vase thing is really bugging me. (Image) (Image) (Image)

Just defending myself against attack on my immigration views...
Shit is shit, whichever way you choose to describe it. I don't like any of the bills. And I do realize that nothing in politics is ever perfect. I am not that naive. But there is quite a difference between the viewpoints of Sensenbrenner/Tancredo and Hannity/Malin. Here's why... SENSENBRENNER AND TANCREDO ACTUALLY MAKE THE LAWS...HANNITY AND MALKIN ARE TALKING HEADS. Therefore, I can reluctantly find sense in what Hannity and Malkin say without it affecting anything. Perhaps I should c...

First, I apologize early if this should be in GD and not GD: Politics. Second, I have my opinions about illegal immigration and legal immigration and I don't like that they do not match with...say, Ted Kennedy. They seem disturbingly closer to...say, John Kyl.:banghead: I hope I'm wrong, maybe somebody can tell me that. Anyway, here (for the sake of clarity) are my opinions. 1. People who enter the U.S. illegaly are not good, law-abiding, deserving citizens. Their very presence would seem ...

she was almost 11. She's been in my family for all but two months of her life. We saw her through hyperactive thyroid, liver failure, Cushing's Disease, surgery on her leg, a cortisone shot that stunted her growth, and so much more. But she started breathing funny last night so we took her to the emergency pet hospital this morning where they said she had congestive heart failure. She passed away this afternoon. Too many strikes against her, I guess. She was the cutest little beagle. (The...

Someone asked me why Feingold bothered to propose censure when it accomplishes "nothing"...
Isn't that what the majority of we DUers dream of? A Democrat who is willing to take a stand and force the issue to the forefront of the nation? Right now, I think the primary thing that Feingold proposing impeachment would do is to equivalent to what you claim censure accomplishes...NOTHING. Here's why... 1. The Democrats do not have a majority in either House of Congress. 2. The Republican leadership has a stranglehold on the House of Representatives, where impeachment proceedings MUST...

I'm responding to someone asking if "Kingdom of Heaven" was a good movie or just Orlando Bloom "eye candy"...
I thought Gladiator was boring and Troy was simply stupefying. But I have been sponging up every bit information I can find on the Crusades ever since I saw the movie. And I do admit that I originally saw it because Orlando Bloom is hot!!! I thought that the best character development was of Saladin and Balian. Other than that it was, perhaps, a bit flat. Does your copy have the hour long History Channel documentary, etc. on it? If it does, watch those. In the extras, such as that, the ma...

And since I know the DNC can't do anything POLICY wise and I know they can do a lot regarding who runs...I may have went a bit easy on them. Please encourage all Democrats to support Senator Russ Feingold in calling for censure of the President. If the majority of the 2006 campaigns are going to be run on the President's innate ability to break the law and screw things up, the campaign themes will ring hollow if the Democrats don't have the general spine to stand with Senator Feingold on the c...

Lot of good it'll do, I know. But I didn't want to waste my fingers on Little Ricky and Spineless Specter. Anywho...just thought I'd share the email. And before anybody says it...I know, I'm too damn nice. It really is a curse. I have no choice but to contact the DSCC on this issue. I am from Pennsylvania and there is more of a chance of pigs flying while singing "Ave Maria" then there is of Senator Specter or Senator Santorum ever supporting any criticism of President Bush. So my only ho...
