The struggling auto industry was thrust into the middle of a political standoff between the White House and Democrats on Monday as President-elect Barack Obama urged President George W. Bush in a meeting at the White House to support immediate emergency aid.

Bush indicated at the meeting that he might support some aid and a broader economic stimulus package if Obama and congressional Democrats dropped their opposition to a free-trade agreement with Colombia, a measure for which Bush has long fought, people familiar with the discussion said.

The Bush administration, which has presided over a major intervention in the financial industry, has balked at allowing the automakers tap into the $700 billion bailout fund, despite warnings last week that General Motors might not survive the year.

Obama and congressional Democratic leaders say the bailout law authorizes the administration to extend assistance.

Bush holds the taxpayer money hostage, allows the auto industry to fail to try and make some political point about Free trade with Columbia. This moron can't be gone soon enough. Personally, I think Obama should say if Bush won't do it it will become effective on 1/20/09.

3. The right is coordinating a full scale attack against her in the coming campaign for here many varied positions on issues and the things she did in the WH as first lady.
here is but one recent example:
