Now that some of the furor over Osama's death has died down, I wanted to share something I saw on Facebook a lot right after it happened. "The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.-Psalm 58:10" The posters were all super religious conservatives.

This seems to me to be the exact kind of thinking that brought us 9/11 in the first place. Who decides who is wicked and who decides who is righteous? If you had asked Osama himself, he would have said that he was doing the world a great favor by attacking the wicked Americans.

(Side note before people get mad at me: I don't really care if you were happy to see the man die or not. I don't care if you are religious or not. I'm just saying, don't use this quote as a justification for your happiness. To me it just shows that you share a terrorist mentality.)

This site has a report for every state in the union detailing which citizens received tax cuts and how big those cuts were.

After 2 years of reading bumper stickers that say "Silly liberals... Pay checks are for workers" and "I fight poverty, I WORK!" and other completely asinine things, trying to figure out what would make someone so heartless as to not want to help their fellow countrymen, I've figured it out.

There is a theory of moral development (Kohlberg's) that explains it all. In the first level, the person only does what is right because of a fear of punishment or because of a chance of a reward. They basically have this "What's in it for me?" mentality. In the third (and final) level, the person is able to look at things from another person's perspective. They know that there are a wide range of opinions and values in this world and that laws need to protect people's rights.

Basically what it comes down to is that Republicans never left the first stage of moral development. They lack the ability to put themselves in someone else's shoes and they only do something if they can get something out of it (like get into heaven).

My mom was a Republican when she and my dad first got married. She drove all of us kids to church every Sunday morning; snow, ice, blizzards be damned. My dad did the same thing this author did. Challenged the values she was brought up believing and asking her why things are the way they are. He slowly opened her eyes to the injustices of our world. He never forced her to change her opinions, she did that all on her own. Now she is one of the voices challenging those injustices. She realized the hypocrisy of it all.

where we are documenting Republican violence. Can anyone help me out with a link? I need to add this little gem to the mix:

http://www.newshounds.us/2008/12/26/hate_m...

"I have spoken with many, many people like myself and it is coming, I do not like nor condone violence, but this could make the 1860's civil war look like a rock throwing incident."

"Look around we are watching and listening more than you would ever believe. Groups like the Secular Progressives and the ACLU to name a couple are our arch enemies and will be dealt with."

but if you go to wewantmedicare.com you can sign a petition from Alan Grayson. This is what you would be attaching your name to:

Dear Speaker Pelosi,

If we’re going to vote on bills without a public option, we should also vote on the public option.

Our bill (HR 4789) lets anyone buy into Medicare.

We've had lots of debate. Now it's time to vote.

Regards,

Rep. Alan Grayson

"Destructive and deceitful lies
are told about me and hateful things are said
for no reason."

"For being friendly and kind,
they paid me back with meanness and hatred."

"Find some worthless fools (teabaggers, birthers, random terrified parents)
to accuse him of a crime."
