I wonder if we really understand the sea change that happened that night to this country and to the world. Or maybe I loved him so much that I exaggerate the importance, but I think something broke that night and we have yet to fix it. I liked JFK, but RFK was the real visionary.
Here is a link to the end of the movie, 'Bobby' by Emilio Estevez that I think is important. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmRTAa4-QNc [points of the RW as to the changes the WH is perpetrating on the American people and that they should fear the WH and the rights that are going to be abrogated (This is laughable because of the real rights taken in the last administration). The thing that struck me is that every time I see Jewish men or black men or Latino men or gay men (and women) carrying water for the RW, I always know that the minute they leave the 'room', that the Glenn Becks and the Rush Limbaughs, the Hannitys, the Coulters, start in on the f...ing _________ (now fill in the applicable epithet.) I am a GWM from an affluent and powerful family from the South and I have heard it done all my life. (They didn't know about the G part then). I wonder what those convenient water carriers would do and what they would think if they knew that this was being said about them in their absence?
It is the case of the murder of Ryan Skipper. Below is the Wikipedia blurb;
Ryan Keith Skipper (April 28, 1981 - March 14, 2007) was a 25-year old gay man from Polk County, Florida who was murdered on Wednesday, March 14, 2007 in what authorities called a hate crime. Two men have been arrested in connection with the crime: William David Brown Jr. (20 years old at the time of the incident), and Joseph Bearden, 21. Brown has claimed that he killed Skipper in retaliation for unwanted sexual advances <1>. The men have been charged with first-degree murder and robbery.<2> Skipper's body was discovered on March 15 by a roadside in Wahneta, Florida. THe evidence in this case make it clear that it was a hate crime - he was stabbed 27 times and his eye socket crushed - his car was driven to Lake PANSY and trashed (even though one of the supposed reasons for the crime was to sell the car) I am posting this for several reasons today, but the one that has me the most upset is the statement from William David Brown is that he was "retaliating against an unwanted sexual advance". If lawyers were able to use this as a valid tact in trials where the defendant was a straight woman who had killed a straight man for 'unwanted sexual advances' case law would grind to a halt and no woman would go to jail again for murder. What woman hasn't had to endure unwanted sexual advances from men. I find this tactic extremely insulting, disgusting and it pisses me off that judges allow it. This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. I have no way of knowing who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office at the Post Office.
Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith. We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, 'To Meredith , ' in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, 'When a Pet Dies.' Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I'm easy to find, I am wherever there is love. Love, God go after misdeeds, even if it is someone in their own party. If he had been a Republican, there would have been a hue and cry to leave him alone and the wagons would definitely be circled.
did what ever they wanted when GWB was in the WH and now that Obama is in the WH, the Republicans do what ever they want - without any seeming impunity. This is based primarily on the bailout bill.
You can google 'free telephone directory' and dozens of links come up with 'free' in their subject line but invariably, once you get to the site, it all of a sudden costs &14.95 to lookup one number.
It was on my YouTube's 'recommended for you' this morning. I cannot imagine what I was looking at to make YouTube think I would want to look at or support this. I only post it, partly because I still am surprised that this stuff is still around and partly because I know why it is still around and want to shine a light on it.

Fri Oct 24th 2008, 02:25 PM There apparently is an internet rumor going around - the message from our clerk will explain.
A widely circulated Internet message telling people to vote straight party and to vote again for their choice for president needs to be ignored, Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said. Their vote for president won't count if they do that in Travis County, she said Wednesday. "We've been hearing about the rumor for the last three weeks, and it's all over the nation," DeBeauvoir said. The message tells people that if they vote a straight-party ticket for the Democrats, they then also must mark the box for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, she said. In the county's electronic voting machines, that move would deselect the voter's presidential choice, she said. On Monday, a man was telling voters at a Randalls grocery store at 2025 W. Ben White Blvd. to do the double voting, DeBeauvoir said. After an election official confronted the man, he fled in a Chevrolet Impala covered with stickers for GOP candidate Sen. John McCain and the Republican Party, she said. DeBeauvoir said that was the only incident of a "polecat" she has heard about in Travis. If Travis County voters mistakenly vote that way, a message will appear on the screen saying that they have changed their choice, she said. The electronic ballot allows voters to reselect that candidate, which means that their selection will be counted, she said... how timely and right this movie is?

Tue Oct 21st 2008, 06:03 PM They don't seem to have a presence, but I cannot imagine that they are willing to go away after waiting so long to get into positions of power. Have they gone underground or have they toned down the rhetoric and waiting for a McCain presidency
She is 15 years old and if I was 15 again (oh, and straight too) I would be a BIG fan.
http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/HollySte... It is in 4 parts and you may have seen it when it came out in August, but it warrants another viewing - I got mad all over again. It does validate my quote of several years ago when I first saw Ralph Reed's picture on Time (Newsweek?) - I told my partner he was the devil's minion, if not the devil himself (except I don't believe in the devil-but you know what I mean). This Christian facade is just that-he is a con man. And don't get me started on Abramoff, Norquist and DeLay.
