that I said I was? I am happy to tell anyone interested who I am. Don't think you must lapse into conspiracy theories. I am must less complicated. and let's note the <0 vote before a discussion was begun. Nothing like the liberals giving one a chance.
In response to a series of posts on my General Discussion topic on English as the US official language, I posted the following in part. I think it is worth posting as a separate topic.
I am disappointed that so many at DU choose to mock rather than ignore.
Cherish your professional liberalism, guys. But liberals who like to weigh all sides and actually think rather than repeat slogans will not long want your company. What makes you think that demeaning discourse and playing Glen Beck in JFK's suit makes you any more special than the average teabagger. But keep at the puerile rampages and soon no one will hazard a comment that does not come out of your talking points.
If this approach to the world represents today's liberals, I am damn glad I am 90 years old and still remember Adlai Stevenson.
that no one really deals with the language and the semantics. Almost immediately the charges begin to fly. Easier, I guess, than to deal with the question posed in the op.
for the substantive post. You make an interesting point that I had not thought of—about the importance of the US reflecting the melting pot via language diversity. Although I don't like "official" anything, I do sometimes wonder how we can be a cohesive country if we do not share a language. Gotta rethink that.
Re visiting the US English site, no question believers go there. But it did present one side of the issue.
Eighty-nine percent of those who visit and respond to the poll at the US English site believe that English should be the official language of the U.S. On the other hand, this blogger believes the US should continue to recognize multiple languages. What do you think and why?
But you have no idea at all whether I am poor, rich, or somewhere in between. I am not attacking you. Just begging you to think what you are saying.
Having posted only 55 times does not mark me as having taken leave of my senses. I did actually think on occasion before beginning to enjoy DU. Is it possible simply to disagree with you without being subjected to ad hominem arguments? Bluster does not an argument make.
Why do you weaken an otherwise interesting bit of theoretical by generalizing obnoxiously about info you cannot possibly have? And why are your meaningless generalizations so much superior to anyone else's?
Disappointing.
My problem is that I do not see how requiring people to buy into health insurance helps anyone but the insurance companies. Seems to me from the people I know, could they afford the costs they would already have a health insurance program. So "forcing" the insurance companies to abandon pre-existing conditions is a small price for them to pay for having all Americans--except Congress-persons and federal employees-- legislated into buying insurance.
Seems to me the single payer ideal is shot all to hell; the public option is toothless; and all that is left is more money to the corporate turds and nothing for those who actually need help.
I love Obama but it is difficult for me to see what is to be gained in this bill.
What an interesting new view of the Speaker. Thanks for posting this. It enrages me as well. And it is especially crazy-making when we hear the returds announcing how few members of the public want single payer.
So how do we get this info out and stir the public pot a bit? How about your contacting Howard Finemann (sp?) at Newsweek? Or writing a My Turn--if that still exists.
Good and timely question since the prayer-mongers are everywhere. I left, for example, the board of an animal care group because the founder insisted on beginning every meeting with a long imprecation to Jesus to help stray cats and dogs.
In your situation, I would do several things. First I would remind this woman of the Constitution and the separation of church and state. I would also remind her that many of her constituents may be Muslim, Buddhists, non-believers, or just folks who prefer to pray in church and not at civic meetings.
If none of this helps, I would call the local paper and invite it to do an "interesting feature story" that raises the issue of religious observations in civil settings.
Last, I would gather up individuals who feel like you and begin now a campaign against her.
PS 2 minutes of silence is as bizarre as prayer. What are attendees to do: count votes?
Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease is becoming increasingly common as the numbers of AD affected soar.
On the other hand, try not to stress. If you have it in your family, you may have some reason for concern but even then it is no sure thing.
Remember: if you forget where you put your car keys, that is absolutely no indication of Alzheimers or any other dementia. If you look at your car keys and do not know what they are, you might need a neurologist.
Don't put the elderly chap on an ice flow. If there is nothing in the oven, what is the problem?
People of all ages can buffoon us with their habits, but leaving an oven on or over-heating a pad in the micro is not necessarily a sign of anything other than that he lives differently from you.
Not sure your needing to be "talked down" is reasonable, are you? Are you too impatient with him?
