Whenever a case takes over the news it affects everyone’s view of the justice system including the judges, lawyers and juries that make key decisions. The OJ Simpson case made criminal court terminology household language. The Paris Hilton saga in and out of jail once again will influence the justice system on many levels. She has become a “A Tale of Two Cities”: the inhabitants of cities filled with the rich, famous, or from a ”good family” vs. the inhabitiants of the middle and poor classes. She is a tale of power clashes that have nothing to do with her personally- the power of a Judge vs. the power of the Sheriff. Yes, Paris Hilton will now no longer just be a pop icon that either you love or hate but rather Paris Hilton now has a direct impact on my dear readers under 21 when facing criminal charges.

First of all, if you are young and charged with a crime be aware that judges are going to look more closely at your conduct not only at the time of the arrest, but how you behave after the arrest. I cannot be more clear that if you are in trouble with alcohol or drugs and you have a problem, you should take immediate steps to obtain treatment. I realize you may not have the papprarazzi following you so that it might be a little easier to go on partying after an arrest but I think Judges will be more responsive to help you not ruin your life with a criminal charge if you are pro-active.
