The newscasters seemed so surprised to actually have a Democratic leader visit there. He spoke to the ASDC group later, but this was free speech, open to the public.

He poked fun that Cheney had to go to his home state to campaign for Cubin against Trauner...praised Trauner for doing so well.

"Wyoming was a big success story,” Dean told a standing room only audience Friday at the Snake River Lodge and Spa. “Who would have thought it would be within 1,000 votes and the vice president would have to come in to campaign.”

Dean’s remarks were met with loud cheers from the crowd, which was made up predominantly of Democrats.

Later that day at a speech given before the Association of State Democratic Chairs at the Four Seasons Resort, Dean hailed the success of Democrats across the nation in the recent elections as proof that his 50- state strategy worked on a national scale.

“It was a great win for what I call the new Democratic Party,” Dean said. “This is the new Democratic Party. The old Democratic Party is back there in Washington, sometimes they still complain a little bit.”
