mcollins's Journal
I was so tired after Tuesday turned into Wed. morning that yesterday afternoon I just stayed home and rested. It was a tough day for us across the country but all the hard work we put into the race here in Colorado paid off.
Thanks to all of you who have had kind words in PMs these last few days. We are seeing alot of traffic and much support so far today. It's going to be close, but we will overcome!
Got to get back and continue to work. Just stepped out for a cheeseburger, fries, coke, and a quick shout out to DU. Only on for a few. Yesterday admin'd a MBA test for several students, and today we are rushing around working on the last Get Out The Vote items before tomorrow's big day. internal polls show Mike up by 3, so everyone we can get to the booth is critical. The weather day is cold with spot of rain, but tomorrow is going to be mid 60s-low 70s and clear. Perfect Weather.
Hope everyone else has a great day! I won't be on much between now and Nov 3rd. Most of my time will be spent doing last minute campaign work for Mike Bennett. The polls are dead even, with Bennett pulling ahead.
Wish us luck, and if you are in Coloraod, for goodness sake, get out and VOTE! I see now that some mods are explaning their job to threats. Or prehaps the threat of threats.
What is next? A loyalty oath? or you would see I didn't defend those men who assaulted Lauren Valle. I did however, disagree with those who claimed she was innocent of anything other than being there.
"The episode occurred just before Mr. Paul was to debate his Democratic rival, Jack Conway. A liberal activist, Lauren Valle, 23, a volunteer for MoveOn.org, approached Mr. Paul — some say she “lunged” at him — to give him a mock award. At that point, some men wrestled her to the ground and one appeared to grind his foot into her shoulder and neck. Another admonished him, saying, “No, no, no. Come on,” at which point the man stopped. Ms. Valle spoke to reporters afterward. A MoveOn spokesman said later that she was treated for a concussion and sprained shoulder. The incident escalated into a political battle on Tuesday. Mr. Paul called on “both sides” for civility; the Conway campaign and MoveOn complained that he was insufficiently concerned. Mr. Paul subsequently issued a statement in which he condemned the violence. Some on the right, including Rush Limbaugh, said Ms. Valle was a “professional agitator” who had provoked the incident. “Nobody’s condoning the manhandling even of a radical, liberal woman,” Mr. Limbaugh said, but added that she could have been a threat and it was appropriate she be restrained." This report was in the NY Times. The NY Times reports she is called "A Radical Liberal". There are now 2.2 million web hits for her name on Google. Here's one, if you can stand to read it: http://www.arguewitheveryone.com/general-p... It shows up on the first page of the search. LMAO!Even The View Message Boards are now talking shit about her- Lauren Valle has already faced felony charges after being arrested in May along with six others in Louisiana for her antics in a Greenpeace activism stunt. The group of activists had already been repeatedly warned by law enforcement to stay away from the area, after being spotted in the area the week leading up to the incident. The incident was serious enough that it drew the attention of the New Orleans Joint Terrorism Taskforce, which also reviewed the case. In a similar stunt, Valle and four other protesters were arrested and detained in China in August of 2008 after illegally hoisting a banner just outside the National Stadium (the “Bird’s Nest”) in Beijing’s Olympic Park. Progressives praised the action as part of a carefully coordinated effort amongst multiple activists organizing from multiple locations. In April of 2008, Valle was also arrested after chaining herself to Citibank’s headquarters building in New York as part of a protest related the RainForest Action Network’s “dirtymoney.org” campaign. Dressed in costume as a “Billionaire for Dirty Energy”, Valle demanded with others that Citibank shift away from its large-scale investments in coal-fired power plants. http://theview.abc.go.com/forum/poor...st-... With a little more though this would have been a major plus for our party- now? This extremist behavior was on full display this week in Kentucky as eco-terrorist – Lauren Valle – attacked Rand Paul before Monday night’s debate in Kentucky. She was later taken down by Paul supporters – the event made national news. Valle was also arrested for terrorizing ships in the Gulf and vandalism in China, she’s a paid leftist extremist! Why does Jack Conway have out-of-state eco-terrorists causing chaos in Kentucky’s United States Senate race? Why won’t he condemn these extremists? yeah-

who may have a differing opinion from them?
I have seen so many hatefully posts directed towards anyone to differs with a poster's opiions. In direct violation of the rules posted on this site, members throw blood onto any member who may think sightly different. I've see posters who will not even discuss a point logically, but fall back on a tired meme of "Right Wing Troll", refusing to even acknowledge the facts of a particular episode. It seems some here on DU would rather blissfully go about their sad pathetic little lives with their heads buried underground, while the world rotates on- then scream tearfully when reality gets in the way of their breathing. Maybe, if they would stop shouting hatespeach of a moment and take a breath, they would realize that most of us on DU are all fighting for the same side. Looks like the latest ad campaign for M. B. in Colorado is going well. We are hitting K Buck hard with the facts on his positions and the polls show Bennett pulling ahead.
( http://bennetforcolorado.com/splash ) Yet, here on DU people are mad, angry, screaming, lashing out at one another over the election, polls, putting their head in the sand over real truth. The facts are we are going to loose some seats. It happens in every mid-term election to the party in power. The right has painted us as radical socialists and in the current economic crisis, the people are scared. It doesn't help when the Democrats go on TV and tell the people that being scared is ok. We must show them that it will get better- not call them Know-nothings. The next two years will be a struggle- but it will get better, and in 2012, President Obama will be elected to a second term. Been working hard during the election and haven't had time to post much. Fall is here and the leaves are turning. It's colder and they are talking snow by next weekend. It's already white on the mountains. I love this time of year.
Already feel overwelmed by this year, but I know that it is just the crush before things mellow out. Had the open house last week and had very poor parent turn out. That is to be expected but it is still disheartening.
The weather is finally starting to turn and now the nights are cool enough for a fire. The cat now sits before the fireplace and looks back at us like she is saying, "Hey! Turn on the damned flames already!" We got another camping trip in over the Labor Day weekend. Great weather but it was very windy. Because of school I find that I have very little time to be here on DU, but once the schedules calm down I think I will be able to spend a bit more time. Had a great camping trip this weekend. We left after work on Friday and came home early Sunday. The weather was wonderful although Saturday night there was light rain. Bears and Cougers have been sited in the area but we didn't see any.
I ran into my first +1000 post bully yesterday. I didn't read her hateful post until this morning and so her interior anger did not spoil my day. It's not going to spoil this day, either!
I confronted her in a calm rational manner and explained my disagreement with her comments. I explained that my writing skills are the result of dyslexia and although diagnosed late in life I have been successful despite this disability. "People with dyslexia do not make random reading errors. They make very specific types of errors. Their spelling reflects the same types of errors. Their spelling is far worse than their reading. They sometimes flunk inventive spelling. They have extreme difficulty with vowel sounds, and often leave them out. Although their unique brain architecture and "unusual wiring" make reading, writing, and spelling difficult, most people with dyslexia have gifts in areas controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain. With enormous effort, they may be able to "memorize" Monday's spelling list long enough to pass Friday's spelling test, but they can't spell those very same words two hours later when writing those words in sentences. Continually misspells high frequency sight words (nonphonetic but very common words) such as they, what, where, does and because—despite extensive practice. Misspells even when copying something from the board or from a book. Written work shows signs of spelling uncertainty--numerous erasures, cross outs, etc.Hopefully she doesn't choke on her hate before she finds peace with herself." This member obviously has problems with her self-esteem and so by bullying the junior members makes herself feel better. Her super ego is damaged to the point where lashing out is her only way to deal with anyone who doesn't bow down to her will. This example demonstrates a way in which people can fend off feelings of guilt by blaming others for persecuting or criticizing them. Thus somebody else is identified as the persecutor, and that somebody is the one who ought to feel guilty. This is a common way of dealing with a harsh superego - instead of allowing it to persecute himself, the person turns it towards other people in his life and persecutes them. James Thurber wrote a story about a man whose son was afraid of other children. The man urges his son to stand up to the bullies; he insists that the boy has to fight them. The little boy tries to do what his father wants but as he confronts the bullies he gets too afraid and runs away. The father's reaction is to shout at his son, to bully the boy every bit as badly as the bullies did: You sniveling creep! You good-for-nothing little coward!' We all know people like this; people who strike us as bossy or forbidding or 'headmistressy'. They manage to make us feel small, or clumsy or stupid. Next time you run into one, it may help to remember that they are more than likely getting rid of their own bad feelings by putting them into you. Oh- another beautiful day here in Colorado! There are parts of the country in record heat and humidity. Today- high is about 90 degrees with 20 % humidity. I don't feel like I just got out of the shower when I walk to my car. I can see the mountains without having smog burn my eyes. The wind is light and fresh. People wave at you on the road going to work.
Just a beautiful day. So, 30 some years ago I met this girl. She'd moved from California to our small town because, as I later found out, her mother was getting a divorce. I had a crush on her in fifth grade, but then she moved away again. Then in high school she and her brother started spending the summers in our town. I started seeing her, along with a friend of mine. Things progressed until we were having a sexual relationship- she was my first in many ways. I was sure I loved her, whatever love is at 16 years old anyway. Of course she moved back home. We wrote to each other a few times and then lost contact.
30 years later I get an e-mail from her. She'd found me through another friend I had kept back home. She'd gotten married with in three months of myself and had two children, both the same age as my oldest two. Somehow we both ended up living in Colorado, not 50 miles away from each other. I called and talked to her for hours in the last month, each of us catching up on the past while leaving feelings from the past unsaid. I don't know if I should suggest we get together for coffee or what. Her oldest daughter is into what I do and wanted some pointers on what to study. I am happy that she ended up happy. Does that make sense to anyone? Been gone for a long time it seems, in other ways not too long. Colorado never changes much, of course, except that everything changes. No worries though- it will change back soon.
Big storms for the last few days in the afternoon. It's nice to watch them build over the mountains and slide down. Watching the lightning is always a thrill. So much power just striking out of the sky. A little sad. Mom is doing worse with her cancer. She's fighting it but it is slowly draining her away. |
