thanks to all who commented on my resume. i think it turned out just right. so, first- the interview. so, when you are greeted with a giant hug, followed by a new notebook and taking notes, saying, you need to firm up your price structure, you need to apply for wbe (women's business esomething, somethign.), do you know xyzresource, we had a great intern doing our graphic design, we were spoiled... yeah, you could work on this account, yeah, you know adobe, you can do lots of things we need. i ...

the schools are not "elite". every child in america is entitled by federal law to an appropriate education, except for one class of children whose needs are often ignored and misunderstood, or outright denied. those children would be the ones with very high intelligence. they are not better than other kids, just as kids with cognitive impairments are not worse than others. they are just different. they think differently. they are often not as emotionally mature as other kids their age. they are...

probably nobody remembers my posts about my alderman's last election (2007), and the hitmen that came after him. it's all in my journal. but i wanted to set the record straight about the freeman institute that was involved. i have solid information that it is NOT the freeman institute of maryland, run by dr joel freeman. it is actually pretty interesting who the freeman institute of chicago actually is- just in case you think that the oligarchs are only interested in buying senators and presid...

david herro, swiftboater and hedge fund manager with huge walmart funding, underwrote half of the campaign of an insane challenger in the last aldermanic race. joe moore's crime? why, he said we don't need no stinkin' walmarts. and there would be no walmart in his ward as long as he had anything to say about it. he was also the author of the living wage ordinance, which went after the big box stores. it passed but was vetoed by da mare.

everybody dies. most people die of fatal diseases. some die of accidents, or suicides, or homocides. blessedly quick passings. most of us have an ugly mortal battle. no amount of health care is going to stop that. the president is not going to make people stop dying. sorry. but the emotional pitch of a lot of these discussions is so humming with people's fears for their own mortality that it makes my head spin.

if you people have never had a kid on the verge of suicide, or a kid that has attempted suicide, you should stfu. or maybe you should just go talk the parents of "successful" suicides and ask them if they wished they had "doped up their kid" mental illness is real. depression is real. bipolar disorder is real. kids get it. kids that get it need help. this kind of bullshit about fresh air and love (as though nobody loved these suicides) is anti-science at it's WORST. wrap your minds around thi...

i am actually trying to document my claim to irish (dual) citizenship, which i am entitled to on both sides of the family. i had an aunt that did a good job of laying out the pedigree on my dad's side. don't have actual docs, but have pretty much all the info i need. but i thought it would be interesting to do my mom's side. i also thought it would be easier, as they lived in chicago for a couple generations. i quickly hit the wall, tho, as i am unable to locate records of either my mom's or her...

mostly stood for not shaving, 'cept maybe my head. well, not really shaving, just a buzz cut that my mother always hated. been known to smell bad, and sure don't wear perfume. don't do crystals, or herbs except in food, but did have 5 kids, 4 born at home. not into stuff, really, although i love my ibook, and my new iphone. drive a beat up old truck and can barely get my mind around the idea of buying a vehicle new. don't know why people would buy clothes anywhere but the thrift shop, either. ...

i have an interesting day in davenport iowa yesterday. (not all good either- my new iphone crapped out just as i was going to collect my canvassers! oy!) a lot of the voters that i and other canvassers have talked to say that they are undecided. mostly, i do not think they are actually "undecided". in some cases, it means- i am not going to tell you what i really think about your candidate. go away. in many cases i think what it really means is- i know mc same will be a disaster. i wish i didn...

there was once a ring of "housing projects" around downtown chicago. they are almost gone now, their residents dispersed throughout the city, mostly to the poorer neighborhoods, and to the "approved" far out suburbs. high end condos have replaced them. i never did get the whole idea that it was the bricks, myself. (although, the construction of these buildings did suck) we have plenty of tall buildings full of rich people, some of the tallest in the world. and somehow they got along. how was tha...

drove from chicago to dubuque, canvassed in the million degree heat for 5 hours, met some of the most knuckle dragging backwash ever, and drove back home. left at 7am, return at almost midnight. i can barely move. the only way i am going back to iowa is if i go somewhere FLAT! anyone else care to discuss their battle scars?

i know of no one- abso-fucking-lutey NO ONE that is supporting obama because they think he is going to keep the gays in the closet. or because they are happy that he has gay-bashers on his team. you make my head spin to even imply that. there is just no way that obama made any hay out of having donnie on his side. in fact, as you well know, it is one of the few real marks on the obama brand. you can say that you disapprove. but you just cannot say that he got anything from anyone by having thos...

didn't say he threw donnie under, said he didn't. here's the thing- this is brand obama- include everyone who wants to be included. yes, that will mean that there are people on the team with flaws. bo himself has repeatedly pointed out that he is a flawed person himself. but you just can't make change by building walls. these kinds of divisions have hurt us as a party, as a country, hell, as a species. it is hard to move beyond it. for everyone. everyone will have to operate outside their comfor...

these here people- (Image) have invited my to be a guest artist this year. the guy on the far right, with the beard, and the tan cap- he was my professor when i was a student at the art institute, many moons ago. i happened to get to know his wife, the lady in the middle with the red sweater. i didn't do clay for a very long time, but have a studio in a co-op now. she is a guest at our sale every year. i always thought that this guy thought i was a worm. just kinda the way he treated students...

just came back from the meeting of my ward dem party. - were there, talking about trying to get city councils, and smaller units of government to go on record now opposing an attack on iran. so, the question is- do you think an attack will be launched before 1-20-09? (ps, if you are interested in working on this in your city, email them, or pm me and i will pass it on.)

people who were perfectly happy to have george ryan, now in prison for corruption, and others of his ilk, preside over state government for decades are now pissing their pants over rod blagojevich. there is even a move to change the state constitution to allow for recalls. personally, it is my opinion that blago is not so much at fault for the stalemates and bs that have permeated illinois government. i think that the old time hacks that got along fine with the R leadership in the past (like th...

what would barack do? so, last year we had a hard fought, nasty municipal election. my very progressive alderman was mercilessly (and thruthlessly) slimed on a couple of neighborhood blogs. it was ugly, and it was close. he missed being re-elected outright in the primary by 52 votes. he won the run-off by 253 votes. the loser filed suit. so, the nastiness continued. to be honest, i hated these people. i was throughly slimed on the blogs. i thought their candidate was a nutjob, and they used so...

this kind of change is never easy. those accustomed to power and influence don't take too well to being told no. there is a lesson here for us obamanuts- it will be ugly. a true change of course will involve a battle for the rudder, and it wont be polite or pretty. harold washington had such a hard time getting anything through the machine city council in his first term, that we became known as beirut on the lake. comedian aaron freeman made a beautiful career for himself by casting the battle ...

i would like to publicly thank senator obama for the "color blind" bubble that i walk in when i wear an o button. being as pasty white as you can get, but at the same time absolutely, honestly not giving a shit about a person's skin color, i hate that sensation that a person of color is wondering if i am some stupid cracker. i love just shattering that feeling with a simple-"so what do you think about barack obama?" it feels like just dropping your clothes, and diving into the pool. you can almo...

all this yayaya about caucuses- they are not the same as primaries. they count something more important than the secret wishes of the electorate. they count the boots on the ground that a candidate brings. this is far more important, imho, than what people will do behind the curtain. how many people will not just vote for a candidate, but how many will stand up for them in public, how many will put in a whole evening instead of 10 minutes, how many will hit the streets? hillary's support is bei...

just wanted to put up a quick report from my alderman. last night was our monthly ward dem meeting. my alderman, joe moore, has been campaigning for barack quite a bit. most weekends when there was a state that you can drive to from illinois, he has been out there. he is a great canvasser, and has been out there just knocking on doors. so, last weekend he was in milwaukee. since they have same day registration in wisconsin, even though you go out with a walk sheet of previous voters, every door...

i have the worst fucking stevie wonder ear worm because of you. following those great speeches with that tiny, tiny snip of stevie. so, i gotta spend hours listening to my whole collection. forgetting what i am supposed to be doing. dancing, ferchrissakes. sheesh, this cult is distracting. seriously, i challenge those on the fence here, and even the hillary supporters among us to spend a little time listening to obama fan stevie wonder, musical signature of the campaign, and not get it.
