I want to apologize to President Obama. But first, some background. I found out three weeks ago I have cancer. I'm 49 years old, have been married for almost 20 years and have two kids. ... And now I have third-stage breast cancer and am facing months of expensive treatment. ... Fortunately for me, I've been saved by the federal government's Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan, something I had never heard of before needing it. It's part of President Obama's health care plan, one of the t...

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - A new study shows heart attacks and strokes are more common in women infected with human papillomavirus, or HPV. The research only included a small number of women with heart disease, and it doesn't prove that the sexually transmitted infection is to blame. In fact, it's still unknown whether the women already had the virus before they suffered heart attacks and strokes. Previous studies have suggested an increased risk of heart disease in people with certain infect...

All males starting at age 11 should receive the HPV vaccine Gardasil to protect themselves against sexually transmitted forms of human papillomavirus, the cause of most cervical and anal cancers as well as most mouth and throat cancers, a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee voted today. Thirteen members of the committee voted in favor of extending the HPV vaccine recommendation to young boys, and one member abstained. The recommendation now goes to the director of the ...

By Joe Davidson, Thursday, August 11, 12:17 PM In an attempt to stem its financial hemorrhaging, the U.S. Postal Service is seeking to reduce its workforce by 20 percent, including through layoffs now prohibited by union contracts. USPS also wants to withdraw its employees from the health and retirement plans that cover federal staffers and create its own benefit programs for postal employees. This major restructuring of the Postal Service’s relationship with its workforce would need congressi...

according to Democratic and Republican sources, are the key elements: A debt ceiling increase of up to $2.1 to $2.4 trillion (depending on the size of the spending cuts agreed to in the final deal). They have now agreed to spending cuts of roughly $1.2 trillion over 10 years. The formation of a special Congressional committee to recommend further deficit reduction of up to $1.6 trillion (whatever it takes to add up to the total of the debt ceiling increase). This deficit reductio...

The second-ranking House Democrat on Tuesday threw his weight behind the party's blanket opposition to entitlement benefit cuts in a debt-ceiling deal. Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said it was the consensus of Democrats to oppose any benefit cuts under Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as lawmakers haggle over how to hike the debt limit and rein in deficit spending. "We have made it very clear that we have no intention of supporting a bill that cuts beneficiaries' benefits," Hoyer to...

(Image) Remember those far left progressives who threatened to withhold donations to President Obama’s reelection campaign? After raising $86 million, the President and his supporters have proven their irrelevance. The far left was outraged that President Obama would fathom reforming entitlements. The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) sent out an email to their supporters in April asking their supporters to tell the White House, “President Obama: If you cut Medicare and Medicaid ben...

(Image) (snip) On the surface, it would seem like an opportune time for Congress to include targeted tax hikes as part of a cost-cutting package to reduce the huge federal deficit. Federal taxes, as a share of the overall economy, are at their lowest levels since 1950. A return to the higher income tax rates of the Clinton presidency - when many Americans prospered, and calls for tax cuts were fairly muted - would wipe out most of the deficit. And congressional Democrats appear ready to make ...

I wish to clarify a few things because some are chanting "Obama stopped COLA payments," which is false. In 2009/2010 SS recipients did not get a cost of living increase due to how the COLA has been calculated since the 1980's. ... The president knows that Republicans won't agree to the revenue increases necessary for a "grand bargain" What could Obama possibly be thinking? The Washington Post and New York Times are both reporting that the president has decided to "go big" on the debt ceiling negotiations: Suddenly, big cuts to Medicare and Social Security are supposedly on the table, and instead of seeking $2 trillion in overall spending reductions over the next 10 years, the White House is now proposing $4 trillion in c...

The actual story is that the President will not slash SS benefits. Where are the appropriate headlines to this effect? (Link) "There is no news here," Carney said. "The President has always said that while social security is not a major driver of the deficit, we do need to strengthen the program and the President said in the State of the Union Address that he wanted to work with both parties to do so in a balanced way that preserves the promise of the program and doesn't slash benefits." ... Weiner, who has said he would welcome an ethics probe, publicly apologized Monday for sending flirtatious messages and images on Facebook and Twitter to six women over the past three years and then denying it for a week. Over the past three days, he has been reaching out to a number of colleagues and supporters, according to one source. Among other things, Weiner called former President Bill Clinton -- who officiated at his wedding ceremony -- to personally express regret for his actions. ...

My two cents... 1. Seek professional help for the issues that led to such reckless behavior, immediately. 2. Stop all forms of social networking. 3. Get a bare bones phone that does not have a camera. And, lose the webcam too, if you have one. 4. Hire a PR team and schedule one last interview on 60 minutes, where you accept responsibility again and announce plans to seek help. 5. Vow to continue fighting for good causes and not to let this mishap rule the rest of your life. Anyone else have a ...

By Deborah Kotz, Globe Staff The number of measles cases in the state has remained steady at 17 since May 25, but that's no reason for residents to think that they can be complacent about the outbreaks surging abroad in 33 European countries, India, and Southeast Asia. Jan. 26, 2011 -- Childhood leukemia and brain cancer are on the rise, and exposure to chemicals in our environment such as chlorinated solvents and the head lice treatment lindane may be partially to blame, according to experts speaking at a conference call sponsored by Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families. Michele Bachmann has become well known for her anti-government tea-bagger antics, protesting health care reform and every other government “handout” as socialism. What her followers probably don’t know is that Rep. Bachmann is, to use that anti-government slur, something of a welfare queen. That’s right, the anti-government insurrectionist has taken more than a quarter-million dollars in government handouts thanks to corrupt farming subsidies she has been collecting for at least a decade. And s...
