It is hard for me to imagine how much further to the right Fox could get with their business channel. For instance, CNBC has Jack Welch on this morning. My first thought on seeing him was "is he still relevant?" Well, obviously CNBC thinks so. I believe I heard Jack say that the media is pushing "gloom and doom" on the consumer all the time by telling us how bad off we are. I'm certainly not getting this message from the media, but rather the opposite. I keep hearing that "things" aren't too bad out here in the real world. I was struck this morning (again) with the disconnect between CNBC and what the government is preaching about savings in this country. We are constantly being told that we as individuals aren't saving enough. However, one of the "pushes" this morning was how much an individual was going to spend on Christmas this year ($500 versus $800 for online shopping). Isn't CNBC getting their talking points on saving yet? Obviously not.
Every time "standards" are brought up by a pundit, it is instantly reinterpreted as "protectionism." They (the media) don't seem able to understand the difference between the two.
Yesterday I thought perhaps one of the servers at the university might be down. However, now that it has continued into today, I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be.
Is anyone having trouble getting work units for Folding? I have not been able to get work on two of my computers since early yesterday, although one of my laptops has picked up work. The message is: "Work unit has an invalid address." I'm not sure what the problem might be as I have been doing folding for quite some time on all of my computers and have never encountered this problem before. Any advice will be much appreciated.
...law school?
...that if Bush read it, he would probably agree with her.
broadcast. I, too, heard this exchange and was somewhat taken aback. However, Mr. Wolffe is not one of my favorite people for this very reason. He, as another poster points out, always seems to straddle the fence on issues. This was not the first time I have heard this type of verbiage from him.
troll. I definitely disagree with the OP regarding impeachment.
...I think we said "wait just a damn minute" in November of 2006. Now we are waiting to see what our officials do with this change. I really don't think we Americans have any more power than what we did in November and what, hopefully, we will do in November 2008.
The next election may have to be a wake up call. We put him in, we can take him out.
coverage, but just not an appropriate amount of time. I happen to agree that 1 or 2 minutes to discuss your candidacy is not long enough (and I'm not even listening to the "candidates" at this point). Twenty minutes had to sound like a lifetime. I watched all the "fair and balanced" I could take late this afternoon with Tucker implying that Imus was a liberal and now the Democrats would not have a venue. This was not the first time I heard that Imus was a "liberal." Sort of like saying Lieberman is a Democrat when he is an Independent. I swear the networks are going to saddle the left with Imus, but I digress...Yes, I do agree that we need the Fairness Doctrine back, but then there is so much that we need back in this country right now (jobs, health care, ad infinitum) where do we start? The "news" now is all infotainment and I'm quite weary of it all.
...last night (either on Tucker or Hardball) made the point about why so many "heavy weights" went on his program. He said that he (Dodd) had been offered 1 or 2 minutes on the other networks while Imus had given him 20 minutes in which to discuss his agenda.
I am not an Imus fan and have never watched nor listened to his program. My husband and I were discussing this very aspect ourselves. There aren't many "shock" jocks out there routinely claiming that the Bush administration is full of war criminals. We won't be surprised if the "push" was politically backed.
I have an aunt, widowed without any children, who suffered from an AVM in December, approximately the same time as Senator Johnson. She is currently residing in a "nursing home" in Kansas. She is on no IVs, no tubes, ventilators, etc. She is ambulatory without any paralysis, but has a slight speech impediment as a result of the incident. She takes one medication per day, a pill for hypertension. Her care is currently costing $6,500 a month. Our family is in the process of selling her small home (half of a duplex), hoping that the money from that will support her care for approximately a year, at which time Medicaid will take over. I shudder to think what our family will do if Medicaid fails to pick this up.
When raising my children, I went out of my way to make sure that they learned the correct terminology for body parts so that they would not embarrass themselves or others. What is improper about correct terminology? Is the word "nose" improper? Is the word "eye" improper? If a young child hears the word "vagina", doesn't know its meaning and inquires, what is wrong with that?
Edited for an improper punctuation mark.
