I think, and I hope, people will start to wake up and see what is actually going on. The big job crisis in this country is in the public sector.

Private employment has grown more than all 8 years of Bush combined..and then some

example:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40923350/ns/bu... /

But when the republicans got into power in 2010 in the state houses.. the cutting and gutting of public sector jobs began.

These are real honest to GOD jobs, paying decent money to people, many times minorities.. and cutting and gutting these jobs will skew the unemployment crisis.

This is what was planned from the get go.. if they could get in power and why they "talked" jobs before the election and did NOTHING after.

This is also why you have red governors turning down money for rail systems etc that would build the infrastructure and employ people.

As long as the republican t party people who are being backed by Koch and Murdoch etc are in power.. they will continue this strategy because it gets them back in power.

They are not going to back down on this. So our only hope is to get people out to vote.. not sit home.. off year elections are bad bad bad for that.

We have to vote them out.. all of them.

Think about Walker in Wisc. and Pa., Fla.. etc.. Steve King here in Iowa (he has been up for re-election twice and refuses to debate his opponent both time..)

I am telling you from my heart and from experience.. the longer they stay and get dug in, the harder it is going to be to move them out.

The time is now to keep the message going and clean house of the t party people.

That sickly smirk you see on all those reps from the t party.. the ryan the cantor..they are pod people and will never ever deal

They have been working 24/7 to rid their party of all rational republicans.

We gotta turn out that vote

just check where they got their story from. It never ceases to amaze me that suddenly something will blow up from Mr. Anonymous.. and all the newspapers are carrying it.. and it must be written on stone tablets and the TRUTH.

Well the truth is this.. there is very little independent reporting or investigating going on anymore.

Most stories just get picked up through a news service or it is one newspaper parroting another.

Just because you can read the same word for word (dead giveaway) in 12 different newspapers and 20 different blogs does not make it true.

That old chestnut.. you repeat a lie often enough people take it as the truth.

The big papers.. Murdoch comes to mind right away.. are power brokers ..not champions of the truth.

It is up to the individual to feather it out the best they can.

Now, I have a suggestion for all concerned.

Neither one of you is going to be able to please all the elements of the 35% base you both have. It is not possible. It is just not.

Forget the fact you both are going to be eaten alive by those who have invested their hate in you.

Its there, it is not going away.

So with that in mind,

Just raise the caps.

The extra money coming in will go into treasuries anyway and that will automatically bring down the deficit

Just raise the caps.

Take half that extra money coming in from raising the caps and invest in infrastructure.

Just raise the caps.

With investment in infrastructure many of the people in the trades who lost their jobs with the housing bust will be re-employed and when re-employed will start to buy and build new home stimulating more jobs in that area

Just raise the caps.

Today Christians ... stand at the head of ... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity .. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ... We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... (few) years."
- Adolf Hitler

As a liberal Christian who has seen our messages silenced..pulled from the air.. it is always an important thing to remember that the tyrants will use citizens own belts to hang them from the crossbeams

I would love to post in the progressive people of faith forum.. but I am not a member now, and can't post there.

I got put in this forum in another thread by the mods. I did not even know this place existed.

I will not debate my beliefs..they are what shapes me.

Just as I do not demand a person justify their belief system, or make snide comments about their belief system to try and score points.

But I will debate issues.

Not all people who are people of faith are kooks.. believe in creationism.. believe in discrimination..etc.. far from it.. just the opposite.

People of faith have been on the front lines of change since day one. Yes we have sects and religious communities who are oppressive.. who limit women .. but that is not the whole religious community..just like all Iowans are not tea partiers.. But many tea partiers are Iowans ..

As a liberal Christian, we are targeted by crazies who do not even understand the core of the religion they claim to be a part of.

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/07/28/ch... /

And that is true for all faith bodies.

We have had our commericals on TV..the mass media pulled them off in 2004 When we had a simple commerical that all people are welcome to the house of God. Yep that was threatening to mass media.

http://wn.com/United_Church_of_Christ_UCC_...

We need to support the churches on the front line of social change.

You are beginning to hear it from the right, that seniors are taking money from younger families. yadda yadda yadda.

Can we get a heads up on this for younger families of working class and middle class which is by far the majority of us.

If we did not have Soc. Security and Medicare.. all of that expense would come back on families just starting out or trying to launch kids into college and it would bankrupt them as they tried to provide for elderly parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

So unless we want to take the Kurt Vonnegut solution in death parlors.. the best thing we have going for everyone is Social Security.

It also helps buisness by having that money pumped into the economy that creates jobs.. etc etc etc

The republicans are clueless on economic matters.

Donald the Trump came out and told us all what we already knew.. He is not running for President.

But even his hint at running got the old right wing .. get a businessman in there.. machine going again,

So this is a rant to and for anyone passing by who thinks that the United States government should be run like a buisness. Get over it!

There is no product for profit being produced by the government. Even the services provided are not a for profit operation.

The very last people who should be running for government are buisness people. They work in a completely different entity and style.

The people best equipped to deal with a government are those who deal with people. So what you really need is someone who knows how to advocate for people, to manipulate resources around that do the best for the most.

What you need is someone who has the experience and shows the abilities to oversee thousands of different programs while running a military.

You don't need someone who had met a payroll.... what you need is a community organizer on steroids.

end of the US status as a world power, end of everything, more times than I care to count.

I think I have lived through four end of the world predictions.. (and that does not even count 2000 can anyone forget that)

When I was in high school the one thing every guys in my class could count on was going into the service if he did not get into college. 58,000 of my generation died in Vietnam.. That of course was after spending a few years as a little kid doing duck and cover or sitting in halls during drills. Talk about fodder for nightmares.

Of course people were building holes in the ground to survive the nuclear war Russia was going to start with us.

There was no medicare till 1965.

The 70's were a damn nightmare.. you paid 15% on a mortgage if you were lucky..and the same for a car payment.

Lots of scary times.. lots of enders who are always telling us all the good times are behind us.

Let me just share this with you.. You don't want to go back to those times. They were NOT GOOD times for many many people. That is except the music. We had really good music..

Just sharing some memories

He takes responsibility for everything.. He then tries to correct it.. but many times he gets kneecapped as he does..

My advice to you President Obama, is keep trying to correct the ship of state.. but the fault is not yours for the previous administration(s) mishandling of the economy, war, personal rights etc.

People say they want an someone in office who will handle things in an adult manner. But that is not what they want.

People in general are pretty simplistic in their outlooks. They do not see gradations . If you are willing to take the blame for the other sides misdeeds.. they will heap it on you, and add to it.

Bush on the other hand takes responsibility for NOTHING..
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/us_taxes_bush

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Former President George W. Bush said on Wednesday he has a "clear conscience" about recognizing the problems that led to the financial crisis and he blamed Congress for blocking attempts to address them.

Bush, who initially kept a low-profile after leaving the White House, has been doing a series of high-profile interviews to promote his newly released memoir, "Decision Points."

FDR and the New Deal that saved the American Worker, and gave us Social Security etc.. people so love to take it and vilify it at the same time.. The support of the workers.. FDR did an amazing thing for the future of the country

John F Kennedy.. actually cut taxes for the very rich from 91% to 71%.. The rich whines seem to overlook the fact that it is the Democrats who tried to cut those taxes to a reasonable rate..all the great promise.. cut short by assassination

When Lyndon Johnson signed off the Great Society.. Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Medicare.. on and on and on.. Lyndon Johnson said we would lose the south.. But it was the right thing to do..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Society

The above link is an amazing litany of what was accomplished by Johnson.. though he totally lost any credit because of the Vietnam War..

Womens' Rights.. Roe V Wade.. and Democrats have been paying a price with values voters ever since.

Gay Rights.. and DADT overturned... will cost Democrats support and well as DOMA with those same values voters who have been attacking on Roe v Wade.. but it is the right thing to do.

Very short list of things we have done and are trying to do.. Can you name any important social legislation done by the right??.. any Individual Rights protected??

We are the oldest Political Party.. going back to Jefferson.. and have the warts to show for it, because we have existed in such trying times.. but we manage to do the right thing for the country.

I am a very proud Democrat, and I often wonder what kind of country this would be without the Democrats doing the right thing.

Seriously..I am joining you.. walking in Lockstep with you.. I am not kidding a bit. I know you lurk in here.. and I am joining you.. You were right.. I was wrong.. and we should return to the 1950 tax rates..

I know.. it was much lower unemployment.. One parent could stay home with the kids, because the family could be supported by one parent.. you are right.. I am right there.. I have been convinced

Tax Comparison: Obama vs Reagan, Nixon, Eisenhower
March 13, 2009 03:33 PM EDT
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I received this chart, from The Washington Monthly, in an email this morning. I thought I would pass it along in case you have not seen it.

The media has been obsessing about President Obama's plan to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans—from 35% to 39.6%.

But I was surprised to learn that the tax rate the wealthiest Americans paid on the top portion of their earnings at the end of Ronald Reagan's first term was much higher -- 50%.

Under Richard Nixon it was 70%, and under Dwight Eisenhower it was actually 91%.

It has come to a place, we no longer trust the news or mass media because of implied, perceived or actual political bias.

Fox outlets took a story.. from one newspaper in India, unvetted, and went ballistic with it.. repeating it over and over..

The President would be spending 200 million dollars a day and would have 1/10 of the US navy with them..34 ships.

If you take a deep breath.. the whole is so ludicrous, you cannot believe they would even put that up..

But they did.. and each news source picked up the one before without looking or asking and used the previous news source as its source.

We need a SNOPES show once a week, once a day.. 1/2 hour that will tackle these up and coming urban legends and just debunk them.

I know you would think that was the job of the new shows in the first place. But this is a brave new world where everyone is a lobbyist for a point of view.
