"Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'."

My new album is called The Parable. It's a concept piece about the USA in the not-too-distant future when an extremist right wing faction takes control...just in time for the Second Coming.

The complete album is available free to stream at Reverb Nation. Choose "Side 1" and "Side 2." If you like what you hear, PLEASE tell me and give it a "like", a "kick and a rec", an "un-rec", etc....

I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to say it is also available for sale as an mp3 download at Amazon, I Tunes, Napster, and E Music.

The album artwork and pictorial back story can be found here.

Of course I wouldn't try to sell something in a DU thread that wasn't available to hear first, so I must express my sincere gratitude in advance to all of my DU friends who decide to help out this humble fellow DU'er and independent musican by listening to and / or purchasing my music! If you've already seen this, thanks for your patience as I promote myself again, because if I don't nobody else will!

Thanks again for supporting DU art, indie musicians, and THE CAUSE, whatever it may be.

Random, they were: a bakery in Omaha, a restaurant in Fresno, a school in Richmond, a grocery store in Dekalb, a library in South Bend, an office building in Houston, a theater in Anchorage, a gas station in Bangor, several private homes in Des Moines, Atlanta, Orlando, Seattle and Milwaukee. It happened in one weekend all over the country, and with no pattern. There were 572 in all. Panic ensued, the usual suspects became scapegoats, and the next campaign hinged on security, values, and faith. The election was a landslide.

January 20, 2037

"By 2PM, we started to notice there were black SUVs with tinted glass on every corner. By 6PM, it was made clear that everyone was to be off the streets. By 7PM, the silence was broken only by the sound of gun fire. By 8PM, it was the distant sirens. By 10PM, we could hear the loudspeakers. By midnight, everything was different."

"Thomas Jefferson was a devout Christian who never swayed from the unfailing word of the Gospel. Like all of our founding fathers, he knew that the only path to liberty and prosperity for America was to ensure the blessings of a just and loving God upon our land. Thomas Jefferson died on July 4th, 1826."

"Musicians Arraigned On Charges Of Heresy"

-Various headlines,"Good News Tribune" ca. 2038

June 23, 2038

The "Women's Protection Act" passes unanimously in both the House and Senate. With a stroke of the President's pen, women find themselves "liberated" from the burden of voting, employment, property, and spinsterhood. The law ushers in what becomes known as the "New Feminist" era.

The 2038 "Thanksgiving Talks" between the US and the European Union break down as the EU votes unanimously to sever ties with the increasingly theocratic Super Power. The American press balks, calling the EU "Minions of the Devil" and "Carriers of Sin." By Christmas of that year, the case for war against Europe is being sold as "The New Crusade" and "A Blessing on the New Spirit of American Enterprise." Alarmed at the bellicose rhetoric coming from their neighbor to the south, Canada quickly closes its border. In January of 2039, several mysterious explosions take place in the Chunnel. 862 people are killed.

More to come.

Health care is not the same as a wide screen TV.

The public option is just that: an option.

Real hard working people, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO OWN SMALL BUSINESSES, are getting screwed by the private health insurance industry...including you.

Despite their evil socialist ways, Europe and Canada have plenty of millionaires.

You're not hung up on The Gay. you're hung up on gay sex. please keep in mind that when you meet a straight couple, chances are you don't immediately picture them having sex. Afford gay couples the same consideration and it might just be a giant leap toward tolerance.

Speaking of tolerance, tolerance doesn't mean approval. It simply means "live and let live." The much touted Golden Rule applies here also.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: the lawmakers who are making you afraid of government administered health insurance ALL HAVE GOVERNMENT ADMINISTERED HEALTH INSURANCE.

You don't like the government, we get that. Sometimes we're even inclined to agree. Try and imagine what big business would do without any kind of oversight. If you can't, read about the dawn of the Industrial Age and Teddy Roosevelt.

You say giving help to the poor is counter-productive. It is more counter-productive to subsidize the rich.

The post WWII boom was due in part to government programs put in place by FDR, including the GI bill. The middle class is eroding due in part to massive de-regulation and a roll-back of a lot of those so called socialist programs.

You don't like the fact that ACORN helped poor people get out the vote. E-voting fraud is far worse than voter fraud.

Money as free speech simply legalizes bribery.

The founding fathers were Christian by way of the era in which they lived. They knew what religious fighting did to England. They decided that the new America would not establish a church. Jesus is never mentioned in the D of I or the Constitution. Nowhere in the D of I or the Constitution does it say that we are bound by law or custom to be a Christian nation.

If you really believed that it takes a man and a woman to raise a child, you'd leave women alone to make their own choices.

Ronald Reagan did indeed raise taxes on the middle class.

Deal with it.

Their first 100 days:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discu...

Their first 200 days:

1. Alaska Governor suddenly quits to spend more time with her family...uh...to pursue a career manipulating and lobbying behind the scenes...mmm...to write a book...er...to throw her hat in the 2012 ring...hmmm...to talk about death panels...eh...to pen Beat poetry for William Shatner....er....

2. Still crying about citizenship, jump on false birth certificate, rally behind unqualified lawyer...free publicity of the wrong kind for free republic.

3. Accuse Obama of being a racist in the middle of a press conference on health care.

4. Vilify Obama daughter for wearing peace t-shirt...more free publicity of the wrong kind for free republic.

5. not content to teabag for corporate Jesus, instead bust up health care town halls in the name of Saint HMO, get called out for being the shills they are. "liberal media" runs their efforts 24/7.

6. Mark Sanford has AFFAIR TO REMEMBER in Argentina, fails to have "Checkers" moment with press.

7. C Street discovered to be a flop/frat/ho house for Christian political elite. Further investigation turns up secret decoder rings and world domination strategy.

8. C Street Senator pays hush money over illicit love affair.

9. RW Pundits rub their hands in glee as abortion provider is killed.

10. Fear of Obama-zation rampant, still not used to black president. foments into holocaust museum shooting.

11. call Justice Sotomayor racist for being empathetic, resent her for being Latino
woman, almost unilaterally vote against her confirmation.

12. still anti-everything Democratic, no plan other than obstruction.

Of course, we wouldn't dream of infringing on your free speech rights.

Own it, Rush, the next time you dare try to paint this as the byproduct of a left wing ideology.

Own it, Ann, when you run your mouth about Letterman, then forget the truth about the jokes Republicans tell.

Own it, Hendren, the next time you refer to a colleague as THAT JEW.

Own it, BECK, when you refer to a SCOTUS nominee as HISPANIC CHICK LADY.

OWN IT WHEN THE DHS UNDER BOTH THE CURRENT AND PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATIONS CALLED YOU ON YOUR CRAP.

What an insult to humanity you are.

What an insult to the First Amendment you are.

What an insult to Democracy you are.

What an insult to America you are.

You claim to have the right to speak your mind, and nobody will dispute that. It's all yours.

Own it.

I woke up this morning, turned on the news and I couldn't believe my ears.

My president, through the DOJ, called me a faggot today.

He told me my relationship doesn't matter.

He told me to put on my assless chaps and get back on the float.

He told me that Rick Santorum was right.

He told me it was about sex and nothing more.

He told me that he has forgotten what it's like to experience discrimination.

He told the bully it was OK to beat up on the gay kid.

He sided with the Westboro Baptist Church.

He said it was OK to keep me from my loved one's side.

He said get back to planning the weddings.

He told me I was an expense the government couldn't afford.

He vindicated Carrie Prejean.

He allowed the DOJ to use language one would expect from Mike Huckabee.

He is silent now when his voice matters most.

I defended Obama over gay rights. I was beaming when he went on Ellen. I figured there was a good reason for his actions on the DADT challenge. I tried to convince myself it was politics and nothing more. Well this is a mystery I will never be able to solve.

Why is my president calling me a faggot?

Be warned. I'm really not in the mood for apologists right now.

...and I'm trying to figure out at what point they were actually violated.

She didn't exactly get arrested, which is what one would expect when someone evokes the Constitution in their defense. In fact, all that happened was that she didn't get the Miss USA crown. Of course, this was alleged by her, except she made these allegations the very next day after the pageant to every RW pundit with a mic.

It angers me that, if that were the case, the pageant didn't come right out and say "Miss USA must represent all Americans. We did not agree with the substance of her answer and it did influence our decision to deny her the crown." Do they not have that right? Instead, they had to resort to tawdry tabloid naughtiness, so of course she gets to keep her Miss CA crown.

It angers me that it was Perez Hilton, as worthless a "journalist" as there ever was, who got to be the poster boy for her opposition, and by default the poster boy for Gay America. The very next day, he fed fuel to the fire by calling her a bitch on his blog. Of course the right rushed to her defense, and even middle of the road people thought that the "Queer went to far". The guy's got more libel suits against him than brain cells. Jesus! Why not Carson Kressley or Ellen?

It angers me that she can keep the crown and STILL shill for this anti-gay group. The crown means nothing, except that "they" won this round.

It angers me that she went to the press the very next morning and complained about being exploited because of her beliefs, thereby eclipsing the actual Miss USA....and exploiting her own beliefs in the process. When my imagination runs away with me, I can see a dark car parked in the alley right after the pageant, and Rove rolling down the window for a secret conference.....

It angers me that we as a country still hold her kind of beauty in such high regard that her lies and distorted victimization angle might just work, thereby setting back by a decade all kinds of progress.

It angers me that it's Anita Bryant all over again.

It angers me that I have yet to see HIDE NOR HAIR of Miss NJ, AKA the reigning Miss USA, and I NEVER heard anyone compare her winning answer to Prejean's losing answer. I can't find Miss NJ's response anywhere on youtube. I don't even know if Miss NJ wasn't simply BETTER than Miss CA. I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER HER NAME.

It angers me that this was her answer:

“Well I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what? in MY country, and...uhm... in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think it should be, between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.”

The press doesn't seem to care how egregiously WRONG this is. Well, firstly, we live in a land where you can choose IN A HANDFUL OF STATES. And what's with "In HER country"? HER COUNTRY? And what's with the "No offense to anyone out there"? Like you give a shit, honey.

It's amateur, poorly phrased, like the proverbial "dumb blonde with fake boobs" said it. And yet no one thinks she lost because her answer was delivered badly. Again, haven't been able to find Miss NJ's to compare, but it wouldn't surprise me to discover it was poised and confident.

These are but a few things that anger me about the whole Prejean affair, and why I don't buy the "she's entitled to her opinion" argument or the lie that her 1st amendment rights are somehow being violated because she didn't win MISS USA.

It's also why I take her more seriously than most.

This woman talked with someone that night after she lost and she was practically offered a seat at the big Conservatives table, just like Palin. There's no substance there, yet she is revered by the right, probably sympathized with by a majority in the middle, and vilified by the Left. However, American history tells us that for the most part, no one cares what the Left thinks, because Mr. and Mrs. Uptight America still thinks the Left is Perez Hilton.

http://zonezero.com/magazine/articles/leic...

The Leica is the pioneer 35mm camera. From a nit picking point of view, it wasn't the very first still camera to use 35mm movie film, but it was the first to be widely publicized and successfully marketed. It created the "candid camera" boom of the 1930s.

-snip-

Pensions, sick leave, health insurance - all were instituted early on at Leitz, which depended for its work force upon generations of skilled employees - many of whom were Jewish.

As soon as Adolf Hitler was named chancellor of Germany in 1933, Ernst Leitz II began receiving frantic calls from Jewish associates, asking for his help in getting them and their families out of the country.

-snip-

To help his Jewish workers and colleagues, Leitz quietly established what has become known among historians of the Holocaust as "The Leica Freedom Train," a covert means of allowing Jews to leave Germany in the guise of Leitz employees being assigned overseas.

Worth the read.

British atheists announced Tuesday a high-profile advertising campaign to put posters on London buses that say: "There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

By Tuesday night, as many as 3,400 donors had given about $80,000 on a Web site set up to take contributions to fund the ads. The money arrived along with messages that ranged from witty to nasty, summed up by one from a donor who gave 25 pounds ($42): "Hoorah for the non-believers!"

*snip*

While the vast majority of Britons identify themselves as Christians, only a small percentage attend services regularly. Atheism is far more popular, and socially and politically accepted, in Britain than in the United States.

*snip*

The ads are "not intended as an attack" on anyone's faith, Stinson said. In her view, they do not encourage people to become atheists, but rather are meant to offer support to "people who already do not believe in God."

Making good on a promise to a friend to summarize his views on Christianity, Thomas Jefferson set to work with scissors, snipping out every miracle and inconsistency he could find in the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Then, relying on a cut-and-paste technique, he reassembled the excerpts into what he believed was a more coherent narrative and pasted them onto blank paper -- alongside translations in French, Greek and Latin.

*snip*

"Can you imagine the reaction if word got out that a president of the United States cut out Bible passages with scissors, glued them onto paper and said, 'I only believe these parts?' "
