Well, tomorrow, Jeb Bush's man John Thrasher hopes to seize the top leadership post of Florida's GOP, which lies in smoking ruins after former chairman Jim Greer was forced out in January.

Notwithstanding that he is a two-time state ethics violator and former House Speaker, John Thrasher managed to force his way back into the Florida Senate last year, steered by Jeb Bush. And what do you know, he was promptly named Chairman of the Senate Ethics and Elections Committee. Just another Jeb Bush minion worming his way back into power into the Florida legislature. Our state government is infested.

This man is also known as John "Stop Hometown Democracy At All Costs" Thrasher. Can't have ordinary residents of any community having veto power over how their towns' comprehensive growth plans are managed. No siree. He was the ringleader in trying to revoke voters' signatures from a supportive petition. The "signature revocation law" was then pushed through a gleeful Republican legislature.

Last year, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that this underhanded law that ultimately deceived voters was unconstitutional. And today, the Court issued an opinion, further explaining the ruling, in which it cites the letter from the opposition group Save Our Constitution, which was signed by former lobbyist John Thrasher.

Oh, yes, John Thrasher and Jeb Bush go way back.

.....

As House speaker from 1998 to 2000, Thrasher helped Bush implement a number of key policy initiatives in his first years as governor, especially in the education arena.

Aides and allies remember his laser-like focus and his checklist of goals, consistently referenced and kept in his suit pocket.

John Thrasher plays the Jeb card in GOP chair race. February 12, 2010

Fellow Republicans,

As many of you know, I am an optimist. Despite the challenges facing our Party and despite the uncertainty, I am always optimistic for the future of the GOP. We know what we can do when we stick to our belief in limited government and personal responsibility and work together.

As a former Dade County Party chairman and as a statewide candidate three times, I know and respect the amount of work that each of you put into ensuring that we register more voters and elect Republicans at every level. I have seen this Party propel Republicans from a “permanent minority” in Tallahassee to commanding majorities in the state Legislature, Cabinet and Congressional delegation.

Today I am writing to encourage your support for Senator John Thrasher as our next state Party chairman. I have known John for many years, but John’s leadership skills really became apparent to me when he served alongside me as our Republican Speaker. We worked together with then Senate President Toni Jennings to pass significant education reform that has made a huge difference in the lives of Florida’s children. We passed tougher sentencing laws to keep dangerous criminals behind bars. And we passed meaningful litigation reform and one of the largest tax cuts in Florida’s history.

I know and have worked with both candidates for Party Chairman, and I consider Sharon Day a friend. She is a tireless worker and represents us well as Secretary of the Republican National Committee. But at a time when we face multiple challenges, I am confident that John’s leadership experience will ensure victories for our statewide, legislative, and county and municipal candidates this November. His efforts will make our Party stronger and better positioned to deliver Republican victories in November 2010 and beyond.

If the state committee gives John the opportunity to serve as Chairman, he will be more than just a caretaker or a fundraiser. He will do the hard work that is needed to rebuild our party’s infrastructure and make the state Party more accountable and responsive to the needs and concerns of county parties, more accessible to party members, and a more valuable resource for Republican candidates in every region of our state.

I trust John Thrasher to lead because I’ve seen his leadership deliver amazing results before. That’s why I am supporting him for Party Chairman, and I hope you will consider supporting him as well.

All the best,

Jeb Bush

Let's see: Two-time ethics violator now chairing Senate Ethics; public deception struck down by the Florida Supreme Court; laser-focus on Jeb's **Education Agenda**...

Now he's gunning for the leadership of the Florida GOP. That Jeb Bush is his best buddy won't hurt.

John Thrasher

Jeb Bush

We'll find out tomorrow.

Gov. Charlie Crist says he'll attend the Republican Party of Florida meeting Saturday where party activists will choose Chairman Jim Greer's replacement.

Does Crist think party turmoil over misused funds will distract from the 2010 elections?

"It is disconcerting to me. I don't know exactly what to make of it all. But what I've heard I don't like," the governor said Friday...

The cockroaches are still feeding on Florida's government.
