Senate Republicans today blocked a Democratic plan to extend low interest rates on student loans by closing some tax loopholes, setting off the latest partisan skirmish on Capitol Hill. Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio joined his colleagues while Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson supported the plan.
"I have #studentloan, support keeping interest rate low. But don't need #job killing #tax increase to do it," Rubio tweeted, adding it was a "false choice." (Rubio wrote on
Foxnews.com that he still has $100,000 in student loans and pays $700 a month.)
House Republicans have proposed paying for the Stafford loan extension by taking money from a health care fund. Democrats say no way and accused Rubio and fellow Republicans of bowing again to Grover Norquist.

Meet
this year's Sarah Palin.
Keep it up, Mr. Rubio.
Women are
watching you. Immigrants
are watching you. The elderly
are watching you. The poor
are watching you.
Students are watching you. A stretched-thin military
is watching you.
The FBI, IRS and U. S. Attorney
are watching you.
Oh, yes, stay on this hotshot course of alienating as many groups of people as possible, all the while
whining that President Obama is "divisive" and "cynical".
By the way, it's looking as if Mr. Rubio would be
more of a drag than an asset on Romney's ticket.
