Sure, I had my preferences, but I would have voted Dem in the GE no matter who won the Democratic nomination.

I have to admit that I have been somewhat discouraged with many of the posts I have read on DU lately. I just can’t see the point of wasting energy or wallowing in a negative I-am-right-you-are-wrong buzz-mode argument with other Democrats. The way I see it - we are not the boss of our candidates - so nothing we say will make the slightest bit of difference because, really, the only minds we can actually change are our own. And any of our Democratic candidates would be better than John McCain…….PERIOD.

But, I am very happy and relieved at the outcome.

My rage, my fury has been and will be forever aimed at those who are in power now and who seek to retain their power through any means, no matter how unlawful or nefarious

I refuse to close my eyes to the neocon reality of the damned, unleashed by the destructive policies of the Bush regime. I will not be distracted by the infectious addiction of idle gossip or the faux facts spawned and insinuated by the pig demon, Rove or his minions. I will not be enticed into vapid and negative arguments manufactured and encouraged by the corporate media. I will not become a pawn in the deceitful and demonic plan of the neocon Bush regime to divide, conquer and destroy us.

No matter how it appears, we must remember that this is not a ‘business as usual” election year. I believe that the United States of America has never been in such peril. We all know that it is a pretty bad idea to corner a rabid animal, and I submit that we are doing just that with all our talk of ‘Change’.. and it is going to get pretty rough when the truth finally filters through their dense neolithic neocon skulls into their craven, fen-sucked neocon minds and becomes a real possibility.

So, if a ‘Democrat’ withholds his or her vote in November, or votes republican to teach ‘someone a lesson’ they will be no different than the neocon brutes & traitors we are fighting against and they will deserve to share the wrath and ruin that will surely come if we lose this election.

The Democratic imperative is that we put our personal disappointments and hurt feelings aside and do everything we can to stop the hemorrhage of our Freedoms from the brazen and unashamed neocon assault on our Constitution; we must save the Supreme Court; we must end the obscenity of this illegal war; we must no longer fund the wholesale slaughter of our best and brightest; we must embrace our brave fighting men and women when they return to us forever changed and we must guard against starting another bloody, wasteful and costly war.

We can no longer allow the oil companies to gorge themselves upon the fat of profit squeezed from the lives of we the people; we must not leave the uninsured to suffer silently or to die forgotten in a crowded waiting room. We must feed and educate ALL of our children. We must not allow our once impeccable Justice system to choke on the twisted and malignant ethic of the current neocon Bush regime. We must act swiftly to save our earthly home from the almost irreparable damage done by the greedy and reckless policies of the Bush neocon regime.

We must do everything, everything in our power to see that a Democrat sits in the White House and that Democratic candidates of conscience and consciousness are elected to the House and to the Senate on local and national levels.

We DO have an enemy to fight against but it is not US - it is not each other. I pray that we all remember what the last 8 years have brought. I pray that we all remember that WE, as Democrats, are the only hope for this nation and that we cannot, we must not fail.

Impossible you say? Not if enough members of the Democratic Party are actually willing to allow the Bush nightmare of the last 8 years to continue simply because “their” candidate does not get the nomination.

It seems to me that the angry contention and rancorous back-biting that has been escalating within the Democratic Party lately could have been taken from a page in Karl Rove’s “How to keep the republican party in control for the next 100 years” manual.

Our enemy is NOT Barack Obama. Our enemy is NOT Hillary Clinton. Our enemy is NOT the Democratic Party. Our enemy is NOT Chelsea Clinton. Our enemy is the self-righteous delusion, the destructive insanity of the “my candidate or none’ attitude. I am sick to my soul when I hear people say that if their candidate does not get the nomination they will vote for McCain, or even worse - that they will cast their vote for Nader or not vote at all.

How can any sane progressive forget the neo-con stealth assault that continues on our Constitution? How could any Democrat forget how the Bush Regime has manipulated this country to its near destruction through fear and dissention? Have they truly forgotten that the next President will nominate as many as THREE new Supreme Court Justices? Can they honestly want to put the Supreme Court into the hands of reactionary right-wing zealots for the next 50 years simply because “their” candidate was not the Democratic nominee?

I am sure that neither the corporate media nor the neo-cons could have planned a better Democratic primary.

When I hear Bush speak about "supporting our troops" I think about the lack of equipment and the absence of any real support from this administration that, in the last 4 years, has resulted in thousands of deaths, the loss of thousands of limbs, countless "new" kinds of brain injuries and thousands of cases of PTSD that our troops are still suffering in Iraq. I think about the callous, indifferent treatment they receive here at home and I am, somehow, reminded of "Johnny Got His Gun" a book by Dalton Trumbo, first published in 1939 .

This is an anti-war story about a young soldier in WW I who is grievously wounded and survives the loss of his arms, legs and face (he is blind and deaf as well) but is left with his mind intact. Hell.

Those who support "Bush's War" and the escalation of the violent and unending occupation of Iraq should read this book..(it's short and not too difficult) or rent the movie. War is not a board game. War is not a video game. War is not a "talking point" ..War is blood and body parts and unending horror. War is an obscenity when it is "justified".. but more so when it is based upon lies, manipulation and personal political agenda.

I know without a doubt that we can turn this around, that we can find balance and justice and honor again as a nation and as a people. I feel great when I see our Democratic leaders going after the corruption that has become our government, and miracle of miracles, even some of the MSM are starting to wake up. I really believe that there is still time and that we are well on our way to stopping BushCo once and for all before they completely destroy everything. And I DO mean everything.

But not today. Today I just feel a sense of overwhelming despair. My heart breaks as I think about our troops still in Iraq. I think about the medics dropping arms and legs and hands and feet into garbage bags. I think about the blood and the dust and the hopelessness our troops must be feeling.. the vast and all encompassing despair that surely grows in their hearts as they see their friends vaporized and mangled day after day after day with no end in sight.

Some say that hell was fashioned with lies by the Liar of all liars. I use the word hell in a feeble attempt to describe the indescribable, but the truth is that I cannot imagine the hell that is existence in Iraq. Jesus, I am so incredibly moved when I think of the absolute courage it must take for our troops just to open their eyes and face each day, each night in Iraq. And all of this goes on, with no end in sight, because of the lies our President and his cabal told us for reasons that are beyond any sane comprehension.

Then I think of the Iraqi people. I try to put myself in their situation and I hardly have the imagination to do so. How would I feel if foreign troops kicked in my door and, without warning, ravaged my family while shouting orders in a foreign language?

I try to imagine how it would feel to watch helplessly as foreign soldiers or even the local police herded my husband or father or brother or son into a waiting van never to return. How would I be able to cope if, as I went out the next day, I saw beheaded bodies, drenched in blackening blood, lining the curbs of my street, and what if those heads belonged to my loved ones? This must surely be hell with no end to the horror in sight.

The other night here on DU, I saw the pictures of the Radio & TV Correspondents dinner and I cannot get them out of my head. I saw pictures of Nancy Pelosi and George W. together and, although I was pleased that Junior seemed so very uncomfortable, it disturbed me somehow that Madame Speaker was even there.

I saw the images of that obscenity, Karl Rove, acting the fool while one of the few “journalists” I had just begun to trust, applauded and laughed. It sure looked like everyone was having one hell of a good time. But my only thought was: meanwhile, our troops and the Iraqis are facing death and carnage that we cannot even imagine. And everyone knows BushCo is planning a new war, one that might actually become the ‘Mother of All Wars’ - yet, the party, like the horror, just seems to go on and on and on and on.

Dammit, how can this be? Am I just imagining what appears to be so obvious? That this occupation of violence in Iraq, BASED ON LIES, is a monumental bloody horror of a CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY? Every moment that ‘they’ spent the other night schmoozing, telling jokes and acting like benign buffoons, human beings in Iraq were being blown to shit because of their lies and the tacit validation of those lies.

Am I just imagining the blueprint of corruption that has been emerging these past few weeks? Am I just imagining that there appears to have been a determined attempt to systematically overthrow our government and that all roads lead to the corrupt criminals in the White House? And yet, there they all were ..together.. behaving as if nothing, absolutely nothing was amiss.

Sometimes I think I might go mad….. perhaps I already have. When did it become ‘mainstream’ for Americans to TORTURE people? Perhaps this entire country has gone mad trying to deal with the nightmares that are so obviously the truth, while hanging on to what passes for truth in order to keep functioning.

So…maybe I am just as delusional as I believe the RepubliCons are and life will just keep on as it has been, with just a few gasps of horror here and there along with a few more deaths. No doubt some idiots will go to jail and ‘justice will be served’. Prices will go up and we will hear less and less about truth to power. We will have elections of sorts and may even believe that the votes were counted. But, we will deal, because we are Amurkins and we gotta keep working to pay for the gas to run our cars so we can get to work so we can feed our families and pay the rent and keep on keepin’ on and well… there it is. It's as distressing as hell with no end in sight.

But sometimes, I feel so damn hopeful…

To watch someone who had everything...who had the power to change the world blow it so completely is just pathetic.

When Bush made the speech in which he said " I have capital and I'm gonna spend it" I knew he was going to fall eventually... and hard. And yeah, I wish it wasn't so long and drawn out. But, honestly, I don't think that it can go any faster. BushCo has created an unusually intricate web of "crimes and misdemeanors" reaching into every single facet of our government and, unfortunately for all of us, investigation takes time.

We get back what we put out there.. and the monsterous crap BushCo has been flinging into the universe is returning to them ten fold. Bush and his minions deserve everything they get; every painful punishment, every moment of humiliation, every instant of abject fear because Justice is not just an ideal and karma is real, though sometimes it is a long time coming.

But still, it is not always easy to watch.

Homosexuality in the military is nothing new, Sir, and has been present in the military for hundreds of years. For instance, about the Spartans, who were arguably some of the greatest warriors in history, it is said that they considered homosexuality the norm and never thought it to be immoral or a weakness. It just was what it was.

So you see? It was not always considered immoral and certainly it is nothing for someone like you to worry about. Just because you are a male does not mean that you are attractive to a male homosexual. So you see? Please take a deep breath, Sir, and try to readjust your thinking. No matter your personal feelings about homosexuality, please don't further weaken our military, which is stretched almost to its limit already, by insulting and denigrating the talented, honorable men and women who serve so admirably and who just happen to be gay. They are sacrificing their LIVES for the lies and greed of this administration and wouldn't you agree that telling lies to people .. lies that get them killed....wouldn't you say telling such lies and validating them for political reasons was the real immorality?
