The Prince and His Palace: A 6,400-Square-Foot Getaway That Flies PARIS, Nov. 12 — He may be only the world’s 13th-richest man, but Prince Walid bin Talal of Saudi Arabia will soon be able to claim the bragging rights to the world’s largest private jet. Haider Shah/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images Prince Walid bin Talal with Thomas Enders, chief of Airbus, in Dubai Monday; the prince is buying a superjumbo jet. Putting an end to months of speculation, Airbus announced Monday that the Saudi billionaire had become the first V.I.P. customer for the A380 superjumbo jet, the winged colossus that the European plane maker prices at just over $300 million. Prince Walid, who currently makes do with a customized Boeing 747-400, signed the contract for a new flying palace at a ceremony with senior Airbus executives at the Dubai air show. He expects to take delivery in 2010. With its 240-foot double-deck fuselage and 262-foot wingspan, the 560-ton A380 dwarfs the rides of the world’s most powerful leaders. In comparison, Air Force One, the presidential jet, is a relatively modest conveyance, a Boeing 747-200 weighing just 333 tons. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/13/business...
Tony Snow Backs 'Executive Privilege' Now -- But Hit It Back in Clinton Era By E&P Staff Published: March 21, 2007 10:55 AM ET NEW YORK With the crisis over the firing of eight U.S. attorneys mounting, President Bush and his spokesman Tony Snow have roundly embraced the concept of "executive privilege" to deny Congress and testimony and documents from key White House insiders. But Snow was singing a different tune during the Clinton era, when a president claimed the same during the Lewinsky scandal. Glenn Greenwald, who now blogs for Salon, has located a Snow column in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from March 29, 1998, back in his days as a newspaper pundit. Snow wrote then: "Evidently, Mr. Clinton wants to shield virtually any communications that take place within the White House compound on the theory that all such talk contributes in some way, shape or form to the continuing success and harmony of an administration. Taken to its logical extreme, that position would make it impossible for citizens to hold a chief executive accountable for anything. He would have a constitutional right to cover up. "Chances are that the courts will hurl such a claim out, but it will take time. "One gets the impression that Team Clinton values its survival more than most people want justice and thus will delay without qualm. But as the clock ticks, the public's faith in Mr. Clinton will ebb away for a simple reason: Most of us want no part of a president who is cynical enough to use the majesty of his office to evade the one thing he is sworn to uphold -- the rule of law." http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/ne...
Spocko is a regular kind of a guy from California. Like a lot of Americans, Spocko is repulsed by the kind of venom spewed out across the radio airwaves regularly by right wing bigots and hatemongers -- in his case, specifically KFSO in the Bay Area. Unlike a lot of Americans, Spocko did something about it: he documented their comments. ...He also contacted their advertisers, several of whom were surprised to learn that they were sponsoring hate and pulled their ads. This is probably what caused Disney, who owns KFSO, to threaten Spocko with a lawsuit, based rather spuriously on the claim that he had no right to post sound files from these lunatics' programs on his blog. All Spocko was doing was documenting -- quoting, really. Something well in the realm of fair use. He was never out to make a profit. He was only exercising his rights as an American. Unfortunately, Spiocko's ISP stood by the bullies. http://whiskeyfire.typepad.com/whiskey_fir... KSFO's Eliminationist Tendencies, caught on tape. This is right up there with renewing the visa of one of the 9/11 hijackers after 9/11.... Splat WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Army said Friday it would apologize to the families of about 275 officers killed or wounded in action who were mistakenly sent letters urging them to return to active duty. The letters were sent a few days after Christmas to more than 5,100 Army officers who had recently left the service. Included were letters to about 75 officers killed in action and about 200 wounded in action. "Army personnel officials are contacting those officers' families now to personally apologize for erroneously sending the letters," the Army said in a brief news release issued Friday night. The Army did not say how or when the mistake was discovered. It said the database normally used for such correspondence with former officers had been "thoroughly reviewed" to remove the names of wounded or dead soldiers. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/05/dead.lett...
Yep, Its a real place in the Germany... Splat http://www.banderasnews.com/0611/nw-fuckin... Only one kind of criminal stalks the sleepy 32-house village near Salzburg on the German border - cheeky British tourists armed with a sense of humor and a screwdriver. But the local authorities are hitting back with the signs now set in concrete, police chief Kommandant Schmidtberger is on the lookout. "We will not stand for the Fucking signs being removed," the officer said. "It may be very amusing for you British, but Fucking is simply Fucking to us. What is this big Fucking joke? It is puerile." "The Germans all want to see the Mozart house in Salzburg," he explained. "Every American seems to care only about The Sound of Music (the 1955 film shot around Salzburg.) The occasional Japanese wants to see Hilter's birthplace in Braunay." "But for the British, it's all about Fucking."
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/showDiary.do... Full story at Pam's. Freeper quotes below; Truthfully, I didn't know that this had become an issue. But Prager makes a very valid point. I fully agree that Ellison should not take his "oath" on the koran. It's long past time for MoHamHeads to be offended and humiliated often and harshly. As an American, I was deeply offended and humiliated on September 11, 2001. But not as offended as the thousands of my fellow Americans that died that day and the tens of thousands in their surviving families. I would like to see MoHamHeads so offended and humiliated that they would go back to their nations of origin and leave us in peace. What good does an oath on the Christian bible mean to a Muslim? This has already been posted and someone still needs to buy Mr. Prager a copy of the United States Constitution, Article VI of which explicitly gives Mr. Ellison the right to choose to be sworn in on whatever tome he wants. THERE ARE NO RELIGIOUS TESTS for office. Come on now. Don't bring either common sense or actual FACT into a Muslim Paranoia thread. There are no religous tests. No such test has been administered. The question in fact is whether we should alter tradition. I see no evidence we should. Where is anyone bound by law to go with tradition? He does not recognize American law as based on Christian principals. Therefore, he has no intention of upholding or honoring them. How about a roll of toilet paper. So you want a Congressman swearing allegiance to his country on a roll of toilet paper? On the other hand, what oath from a muslim is any good, no matter what? If a jew, a buddhist, a hindu, or an atheist can all take the oth on the same book, the bible, why can't a muslim? Muslims are not special. Considering the fact that he can lie as long as it benefits and forwards his religion and false prophet, let him place his hand on the NYTs How about if he takes his oath on a picture of the Twin Towers collapsing !!! He could use a stack of Bibles...and his word wouldn't mean anything. But, there are a lot of Congresscritters that I feel the same way about...and as far as I know they aren't Muslim. That is a different discussion...if he wants to use a Koran, then he needs to run for office in an Islamic state, with an Islamic government. I don't have much problem with people swearing the oath on whatever they deem holy, but what does an oath on the Koran mean anyhow when it commands Muslims to cheat, rob, rape, and kill the infidel? This is a nonstarter. This forum needs to look to other things to bash this guy on. Bashing him over his religion won't get you anywhere except as a permanent minority. He has a freedom to choose whatever traditions HE holds. That's what the TRADITION of freedom is. This is factually inaccurate. There is absolutely no Constitutional requirement for House members or even the President to swear on the Bible when taking his oath of office - while Presidents have traditionally done so, it's not clear that any oath needs to be with one hand on the Bible to qualify as an oath (it likely doesn't), and under the Constitution, office holders can take an affirmation of office of office instead of an oath anyway. In fact, President Teddy Roosevelt didn't swear on the Bible when he became President after McKinley's death in 1901. One simply might not have been available at the time. He still became President. American patriots are turning in their graves at this deplorable outrage. IMO, the voters have lost their minds. If our enemies have their way, the voters will lose their heads as well. Prager is dead wrong in describing the House's tradition for swearing in its members. It is done en masse on the House floor, not individually, and generally doesn't even include swearing on Bibles. Next thing you know some idjit will claim that since they are an atheist they want to take their oath on some book by that Hair woman, and then some oaf will claim that their religion is Devil worship and they want to use the book of Satan. Still, since we as a country have IN OUR FOUNDATIONAL DOCUMENTS THE PRINCIPAL OF NO STATE RELIGION, I don't see how we can require someone to use the Bible and I am not sure they have to use anything at all--he may just be making a strawman issue. I am guessing you don't have to use anything at all. When I got sworn into Federal service as an officer of the USAR there was no book. Islam is all about undermining American civilization.

From Jurrassic Pork OK, to recap: Four score and seven fuckups ago, Commander Codpiece took up his Rudy Vallee megaphone and, with his Connecticut Yankee Andover Deciderettes, Rah-Rah, sis boom bahed America into a murderous, post-9/11 frenzy like Iraq was a goal-to-go cakewalk that promised to cost only minimal casualties and no more than a billion Iraqi petrodollars. Instead, the Glorious Invasion and Occupation to win the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqis has turned into a classic David v Goliath confrontation and America is relearning the Old School definition of the phrase “getting stoned.” Pelosi, what the fuck are you waiting for? Do you think everything will suddenly work out in a slap-happy, unseen denouement in this enormous version of Pottersville just because George comes upon an easy epiphany and finds out that his lip’s still bleeding after falling down while eating that pretzel and, oh yeah, recognizes on that snowy bridge connecting the 21st to the 12th centuries that Iraq is in a “new phase”? Does this mean we don’t have to impeach him, after all? This administration just. Doesn’t. Fucking. Get it. They still have yet to grasp that what Iraq, what America needs isn’t reshrink-wrapped damaged goods that find their way in the idea market place’s bargain bin. We don’t need more talking points or agreed-upon catch phrases that everyone dutifully parrots like pitchmen hawking the latest iPod. We don’t need a new spin on the same old shit that Stevie Wonder can see in a dark room wearing heavily smoked glasses: Remainder at the link - http://welcome-to-pottersville.blogspot.co...
Church member Christine Rayes, 47, said "This doesn't make what Ted accomplished here any less. The farther up you are, the more you are a target for Satan." Yes, yes, Christine. I've noticed that myself. Perhaps there's a shortage of qualified labor and the eternal forces of darkness are having to be judicious in how they allocate their time and resources. I can see the memo now: From: Hell To: All Instruments of Satan "Due to this year's increased attrition and our ongoing shortage of qualified applicants, we must ask all of you to be more diligent in your efforts to increase efficiency and eliminate redundancy. Effective 11/01/06, please remove the following US public figures from your prospect spreadsheets: Bush, George W. Cheney, Dick Coulter, Ann Dobson, James Falwell, Jerry Frist, Bill Gingrich, Newt Hannity, Sean Hastert, Denny Ingram, Laura Kennedy, D. James Limbaugh, Rush Rumsfeld, Donald These individuals have been under our control for quite some time and continued efforts on them are a duplication of labor that we simply cannot afford at this time. When you convert a prospect, please update the spreadsheets so our efforts aren't wasted in the future. Thank you. Can't believe some of the spoansors aprticipating in this. Wal mart is no surprise, but the US Postal Services and the Navy? I Thought they worked for all of us? Splat An internal memo from ABC Radio Networks to its affiliates reveals scores of powerful sponsors have a standing order that their commercials never be placed on syndicated Air America programming that airs on ABC affiliates. <snip> Headlined "Air America Blackout" and addressed "Dear Traffic Director"—referring to the radio station staffer who coordinates programming and advertising—the memo gives the following order to affiliates: Please be advised that Hewlett Packard has purchased schedules with ABC Radio Networks between October 30th and December 24th, 2006. Please make sure you blackout this advertiser on your station, as they do not wish it to air on any Air America affiliate. <snip> The list( http://www.fair.org/images/ABCmemo.pdf ), totaling 90 advertisers, includes some of largest and most well-known corporations advertising in the U.S.: Wal-Mart, GE, Exxon Mobil, Microsoft, Bank of America, Fed-Ex, Visa, Allstate, McDonald's, Sony and Johnson & Johnson. The U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Navy are also listed as advertisers who don't want their commercials to air on Air America. http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2983
Max Cleland fired off a response to John Kerry’s press conference today, in support of Kerry, as Bill Frist was saying Kerry owed the troops an apology. Frist is wrong - oh so wrong. Max knows what it’s like to be hit by the Republican smear machine. Kudos to Max for stating the obvious: “I think people will remember John Kerry’s press conference today as the moment we Democrats stopped once and forever accepting the disgraceful smears of Republicans. John Kerry showed our Party how to fight back with the truth. “John Kerry is a patriot who has fought tooth and nail for veterans ever since he came home from Vietnam. He has stood with his brothers in arms unlike this Administration which exploits our troops to make a political point and divide America. “John Kerry should apologize to no one for his criticism of the President and his broken policy in Iraq. George Bush is the one who owes our troops an apology. This is text book Republican campaign tactics. “Everybody knows it’s not working this time around. If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’ve got a partisan political agenda and that’s the bottom line. We’re not going to take it any more.” http://blog.thedemocraticdaily.com/?p=4603
