Just got back from a follow-up with my NEW podiatrist. I decided that not only should I get a second opinion but I might want to go to someone specializing in sports medicine and, you know, who regularly uses things like an x-ray and a MRI.
My old (former) podiatrist relied on feel and his wily experience.

He, the old one and I do mean OLD, told me I had tendon damage and to "stay off it" that's it.
I have a
stress fracture of the fibula, have had it for at least 4 months now. So that means that the sharp pain that I felt 3 weeks before my second marathon in May was actually a stress fracture. My NEW podiatrist says that even with working out (mostly swimming until a few weeks ago) it should have healed by now….it hasn’t. Treatment will include an orthesis (a lace-up ankle brace) during the day and a
bone growth stimulator at night (somewhere from an hour to longer). I should all be covered by insurance-we’ll see.
Plans for my third marathon in November look doubtful right now but again, we’ll see. Treatment for 6 weeks and then a follow-up.
The only good news-when my buddies find out about this I am sure to be a lock for lifetime
BAD ASS status.
“You ran a marathon on a BROKEN LEG!?!??!”

Link to thread on my second marathon (May 4th) a horrid torturous morning and that was before I even knew about the broken leg
