This sort of thing is usually handled in the Lounge but I wanted to post it here because, frankly, it will get more notice.
90.000 posts on DU. I just noticed it.
What a change of worlds since I have been on DU.
I have gotten married, we had our unbelievable daughter, two marathons, watched my brother literally crawl out of ice to continue to recover from alcoholism and live, two jobs, two cats, hitting 40, quitting smoking, going local/organic, losing 60 pounds, and becoming an informed contributing member of my community.
DU didn’t do that but it was a part of our life while it happened.
I have met about 30 DU’ers over the years. From the march against the war to a meet-up to finding out there was a DU’er standing in my living room when we hosted an Obama staging location in November. They tend not to bite so much.
Speaking of post counts, whatever happened to “The 700 club”? That used to be the line of demarcation and immersion.
Skinner , earl, and e have done a really good thing. Thank you. And, those guys write really well especially immediate PM’s when you on a razor’s edge of getting booted from here.
Before there was Grovelbot I contributed about $500, I think, but let’s be honest…we all fear Grovelbot ( a DU thing that is brilliant on at least two levels).
Since I am drawing attention to myself and space doesn’t permit acknowledgment of all the people I have met and conversed with I do want to point out one DU’er and that is Kheph. I met him at the march on October 26th and he was clearly not well. He died shortly after. What he did do was feed news into this site with an abandon that changed the whole thing. The admins were the engine but Kheph was the smoking tires that turned heads.
I appreciate all of the ideas and opinions that DU offers. DU is wise….and other wise. Take it as you will but respect what it offers. Information, ideas, encouragement, redemption, Stella Liebeck, anger, venting, BOLD CAPITALIZATION, and the pic threads.
I love DU. It is a part of my life and I am happier for it.
and, of course, the dude abides
