Plus which, in virtually all civilized countries -- i.e., those not chained to the ideological wheel of Ayn Randian rugged individualism and the "me-first" isolationist bullshit it spawns -- it's standard procedure to subsidize kids from K through post-doc as long as their academic attainments warrant continued subsidization.

Why would any culture want to do this? Because they acknowledge that there's more important and sensible ways to allocate dwindling federal budgets than trying to find ever more creative loopholes for their very favorite members of the bribocracy piggies to float through.

And since there's many competing agendas all vying for a piece of a very limited pool of money out there, sucking up to the rich by definition means systematically fucking the rest of the citizenry out of every single thing that people living in most -- if not all -- civilized countries take for granted.

So, for example, Denmark can afford to invest in the commons because they're not busy subsidizing billionaires. In fact, they tax the shit out of them and amazingly, because the culture is one of commonality rather than separation, there's not really a lot of squealing about it.

Or building land mines that target kids by looking like toys -- like these "green parrots" -- or cutting back on the already decrepit US educational infrastructure until the main thing a city kid learns in high school these days is how to slip a handgun by the metal detectors.
