I urge you to support the Hinchey-Rohrabacher medical marijuana amendment when it comes to the floor during consideration of the Science-State-Justice-Commerce Appropriations bill this July. This amendment would prohibit the Justice Department from raiding, arresting, and prosecuting patients who use medical marijuana in compliance with state law.
To further burden seriously ill people – those suffering from debilitating diseases such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, or multiple sclerosis -- with arrest, or even the fear of arrest, is unconscionable. In the aftermath of terrorist attacks against our nation, our limited law enforcement resources should not be squandered harassing our nation’s most vulnerable citizens.
The real threat to our nation comes from those who are committed to violence against Americans. Stopping terrorists should be the priority of law enforcement. Please take this opportunity to insist that the Justice Department focus its resources on actions that will truly protect us.
