"It seems strange that my life should end in such a terrible place, but for three years I had roses and apologized to no one. I shall die here. Every inch of me shall perish. Every inch, but one. An inch. It is small and it is fragile and it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must NEVER let them take it from us. I hope that whoever you are, you escape this place. I hope that the worlds turns, and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. With all my heart, I love you."

Valerie from "V" for Vendetta.

This quote is absoutley beautiful. No matter how bad this country is in 20 years or better in 20 years, always remember this. Don't let them it take it from you.

Just a bit of a spoof at the fact that Cheney thinks that a Ned Lamont victory is going to somehow increase "terra" in the US.

Tommorow's headlines: LIEBERMAN'S LOSS LEADS TO TERRORISTS PLOT TO BLOW UP PLANES
LACK OF "JOE-MENTUM" TO CAUSE MORE TERRORISM, AND POSSIBLY MORE INDIGESTION, SAYS CHENEY

Dammed neo-cons.

I know we're all caught up in the hoopla over Lieberman's destruction, but today's primary election was the first I was eligible to vote for and I was hoping a few others had the same experince. It was mildly exciting, to say the least, despite the low turnout. My state senate canidate unfortunatley lost a 6 way race for the Democratic nomination for state senate.

I thought it was neat Wes has a Myspace. Check out his "companies" section...pretty good stuff. Just passing this along to my fellow Clarkies (or Clarkites if you will). It's good to see the General is organizing on a level like this--I think he has a very good chance to pull in the young vote if he runs for our nomination. There's something in him that I think has a broad appeal to a large amount of people.

And he's on my "Top 8".

Posted by zcflint09 in General Discussion: Presidential (Through Nov 2009)

After scanning some back logs and some current threads; I've come to this conclusion. A very large part of DU strongly supports a Presidential run by Wesley Clark, but I don't see the press that this guy is getting compared with people like Gore or Feingold or Kerry.

To go on the record, Wes Clark would be an excellent Presdential canidate. He came into the game too late last time but I think he learned from that experince and since he lost in the primary race I don't think he'll get branded as "old news". He constantly campaigns for Democrats in local and statewide races. His social views and positions are progressive and liberal--pro gun control, gay rights and pro-choice. He has a HUGE military background but his positions on Iraq and other world issues are coherant and comprehensive. He doesn't come from the Senate or House--which makes it hard for some GOP'er to pull out some BS stat about voting so many times to raise taxes.

He wouldn't bring the "old news" idea of Gore or Kerry 08 and has an advantage in international diplomacy that many Democrats and Republicans CANNOT bring to the table. While I think Gore would be a great canidate, his 2000 run will work against him in some bit, no matter what you would like to say. The average American will most likely remember Gore as "the guy who lost in 2000", especally since the huge controversey regarding the 2000 election.

Wes is likeable, charming, versed in international policy and diplomacy. He's also progressive on social and security issues but has the military experince to back up his beliefs. He's very electable. He's pretty much announced his intentions on running for the nomination--provided the support is there. Clark supporters need to get the word out--he's still not incredibly well known, despite his amazing record. If we don't nominate Clark in 08 I think Democrats are missing a big chance to have one of the most dynamic canidates for the Presidency they've had in quite a while.

SO SPEAK UP!!

"(Jerusalem) Despite armed conflict in the region and threats of violence from religious extremists WorldPride will begin begin on Sunday in Jerusalem.

Jerusalem Open House, the LGBT rights group organizing this year's WorldPride, said Friday that even though some events, such as a parade that was to be held next Thursday, have been cancelled, most events will go ahead as planned.

Those events include an Multifaith LGBT Clergy Conference, an outdoor festival, Human Rights Day, LGBT Health Day, an International LGBT Youth conference, and an LGBT Film Festival."

This is AWESOME. Good to see that this is still going on even in the front of war.

Taking it right to fundamentalist's faces--right in thier own "Holy City". I want to personally congragulate the festival organizers and it shows that our battle for equal rights will NEVER back down no matter what we are faced with.

From Daily Kos

Republicans,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. In June, I informed you all of a campaign opportunity for State Senator Tom Kean race for U.S. Senate in NJ. Continuing the tradition of letting you about summer campaign opportunities here is a much more unconventional option:

Incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman (Democratic Primary)
Lieberman is facing a tough primary fight versus far-left anti war activist Ned Lamont.
----------------------------------------------------------------
August 4-9th Primary Campaigning:

Elissa Harwood '09 (NOT A CLUB MEMBER) has organized a series of buses departing on Friday August 4 from Washington DC (6:30 Foggy Bottom Metro) and NYC, destination: Hartford, CT

People interested in campaigning for Lieberman in the Democratic Primary will have lodging accommodations paid for (by his campaign), as well as food and transportation.

Buses would bring you back on August 9th.

If Interested, E-mail: XXX@Princeton.EDU or call her
at (757)-XXX-XXXX.

What a f*cking tool this guy is. Talk about crossing lines--he just needs to join the Repuglicans and get it over with. Building "Joementum" using the JOP--Joe's Old Party--way to go, traitor!

Interesting article. Good to see more worldwide tolerance of GLBT marriage and it further goes onto show how radically far the US is behind the times.

http://365gay.com/Newscon06/08/080106saf.h...

Also, South Africa has a specfic provision in thier post-apartied Constitution that sets apart equal rights for GLBT people in thier nation. Kind of funny that Americans and people world wide decreed as enormously bigoted would turn around in only 15 years to legalize gay marriage, yet even after slavery, Japanese concentration camps and Gitmo, Americans like to think of themselves as a "bastion of freedom" in the world.

Currently Rick Santorum is using the Green Party in an attempt to draw votes away from a Democratic challenger. The Green Party accepted the funds, even when Santorum ADMITTED that he did this for politically motivated reasons.

This is a travesty and the leadership of that party should be ashamed of itself. Anyone who supports the Green Party in Pennsyvania is taking away essential votes from Casey, and since the GP accepted funds from Santorum even after knowing his reasoning for funding the GP, is supporting the SANTORUM CAMPAIGN.

The acceptance of campaign money from the GOP for the reasoning that it was given makes the Greens JUST AS POLITICALLY DISGUSTING AS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. They are ACCEPTING THE FACT THAT THEY ARE BEING USED AS PAWNS IN AN ELECTION TO ATTEMPT TO NOT HAVE A DEMOCRATIC CANIDATE ELECTED.

The fact is, they know why Santorum is giving them the funds. So he can STAY IN OFFICE, SPREAD BIGOTRY, AND CEMENT REPUBLICAN CONTROL IN OUR LEGISLATURE. The Green Party is a collection of hypocrites of the worst ilk.

Flame away, and yes, this may have been posted before, but it needs to be posted AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. HEADLINE. FRONT PAGE.

The Green Party's platform of supporting equality and strong stance on civil rights is great. Too bad they're directly violating that stance by indirectly supporting a bigoted moron like Santorum.

The story is about a morning after HIV drug--I'd never heard of it before, and I thought something like that would be much more well-publicized. Does anyone have any type of news on this, or heard anything about it?
