Personal opinion: This bounty thing will finally explode

when there are names to apply to the bounties.

When we can say the Cpl. John Smith and Sgt. Jane Jones were killed in Afghanistan and that Russia paid money for the deaths, when we can see the photographs of Cpl. Smith and Sgt. Jones and know that they were killed for money, that's when America will stand up and say no.

2. That's right.

When we see names and faces. Real people, soldiers, who died because of a corrupted president caught up in something sick and twisted.

3. Some names out there already

Snip

The U.S. is investigating whether any Americans died as a result of the Russian bounties. Officials are focused in particular on an April 2019 attack on an American convoy. Three U.S. Marines were killed after a car rigged with explosives detonated near their armored vehicles as they returned to Bagram Airfield, the largest U.S. military installation in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department identified Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher Slutman, 43, from Newark, Delaware; Sgt. Benjamin Hines, 31, from York, Pennsylvania; and Cpl. Robert Hendriks, 25, from Locust Valley, New York, as the Marines killed in April 2019. The three Marines were all infantrymen assigned to 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines, a reserve infantry unit headquartered out of Garden City, New York.

Hendriks' father told the AP that even a rumor of Russian bounties should have been immediately addressed.

4. Nope

It will mean nothing to the bulk of his supporters. They will find a way to rationalize it.

9. Of course, but it's another issue for Trump that helps keep his approval near 40% rather than 45%

or 50%. That's what these battles are about. The fight for that 5% shift. That 5% who for some strange reason can still be persuaded.

5. it will change nothing, nothing compares to covid disaster

125k dead, if that’s not enough, a dozen dead soldiers won’t change a thing.

7. Yeah they will chnge things...

The military is about the last institution in the US the public respects. I don't know how much difference it will make, but, imo, it will be huge, if proven true.

16. In West Virginia

we have the highest rate of enrollment in the military. It's one way out of the mines, off the farm, out of the small town.

West Virginians are very proud of their family members who served. This story, if presented properly, will resonate.

Will Trump still win West Virginia? Probably. But it will be a much smaller percentage. And the story could help with down ballot races.

(And please, no more put downs of West Virginians. We Democrats in this state have an uphill battle, and your slams of my fellow West Virginians make the task of electing Democrats even harder.)

I have family in West Virginia and I get facebook posts all about supporting our troops, supporting our President, etc. This is the kind of thing that might actually shake some people.

24. Welcome to DU, Staph!

I can appreciate how you feel. I went to a college that was this little island of liberalism in a conservative sea. Happy to see that area has trended more and more toward blue through the years.

23. Welcome to DU, elevator!

I was afraid this wouldn't "move the meter" last weekend. It'd come and go and everybody's just so exhausted and sick of all this that they're numbed out and ...

Hmm... but look at the coverage all day. TODAY. A few days later. It had all weekend to come to a head. And who knows? Maybe this will build toward a furious critical mass.

VOTE. EVERYBODY VOTE!!! Like your life - AND your country - both depend on it!

'Cause they do.

13. Trump cannot pull off plausible deniability.

He can do the blame game with the pandemic. Being a silent partner in the murder of US soldiers is different.

15. If 1000s of US soldiers dying in Iraq for no WMDs didn't change Republicans...

...what makes you think that 2 dead soldiers in Afghanistan will do it?

My only hope is that Independents commit to the Dems. Trump could have shot those soldiers himself in downtown Manhattan, and his supporters still wouldn’t leave him.

Even if they get lucky and catch a shooter, how are they going to trace some cash payment to him back to a stranger with money that disappeared into the night?

17. No, People who continue to support Trump do not care about other lives like this

things that will get them to change will be things like personal financial situations . or anything else that affects them personally.

but not empathy for others.
