Was it only me or did anyone else find Joe Biden's remark today (who is and isn't "black")

to be a common example of unexamined white privilege?

2. I really didn't care about it one way or another

I know Joe's record and I know where Joe's heart is at. More importantly, l know where trump's head and heart is.

3. How do you define unexamined?

It's pretty safe to say that the black population knows where we're coming from. Most of the time they sense the racism and forgive the naivete. I could never feel being black. I can empathize, but never extrapolate being in that position. The fact that I can even state that is a start and only a start. The black man has a different perspective than the black woman. A point of view that is very different than the dichotomy of white men and white women. Now, there is an hierarchy in every community. The issue of color is very real in the black community. So to differentiate about who is black in the black population is right there at the basics of shade. Then you get the issue of who is more true to the black struggle and who is the sellout. As a white person, do you see the black or do you look past it and only see the human? Is there resentment that you don't see the black? Should I expect assimilation into my world or should I castigate myself for not assimilating into the black world. Think of music on our society and how hip it is to dig black music. I think the question is a great one. Hope I didn't step on too many toes.

4. I have some issues with Joe Biden still ...

And what he said today was a bit cringe-worthy. Lord, his gaffes and attempts at telling jokes

However (And this is the African-American half of me speaking), when you compare what he said today and apologized for to what tRump says on a daily basis, or look at the fact that the morbidly obese racist, sexist, insane clown has murdered almost 100,000 persons and climbing, there is no comparison, and NO reason that I won't vote for Joe Biden come this fall. I don't like this tRumphitler administration, and wish to get rid of it.

Hell, the fat murderer installed in our White House with help of his party of putin and ru$$ia, there's no way the black half of me nor the Native American half would EVER vote for that thing tRump, especially since my Native-American side hates racist, Native-American murdering Andrew Jackson, someone who fat ass says he admires, just like the Nazis and white nationalists he says are 'very fine people.' The hog won't apologize for that statement or the fact that he's racist, sexist, and said that the Central Park 5 should get the death penalty even though they were innocent.

5. IMHO, It was presumptuous of him to chide any African American for not being black enough.

Not being AA myself, I don't know what being "black" or "black enough" is supposed to mean or if there is such a thing in the AA community.

Which is why I don't think Biden has any business doing it. Neither of us know the answer. I don't know if any white person can really understand that.

I think he meant that no AA should vote Trump because he is a racist pig. If you do, you are voting for a man and a party who will discriminate against you and oppress you.

I do know that all the conservative shocked protestations are all bee ess.

Conservatives don't care who is "black" or not, they care that African Americans aren't white.

I seriously doubt that the bigots accept AA like Ben Carson despite his buying into the conservative ideology. He serves only as an good example of AA assimilating into the elitist rich white culture.

Push came to shove the christofascists would lynch Carson.

6. We all know

What Joe mean't by that statement. Now did he mangle it a little bit and could have said it in a better way ? Of course he could have and he quickly apoligized.

The important issue to me is, does Joe have a good heart ? Of course he does and black people know that. Yes he steps on his crank from time to time and most of us groan when we hear him do that.
But Joe is not mean spirited and certainly is not a racist like that piece of garbage who doesn't have a decent bone in his body.

7. Yeah.

I facepalmed. Joe means well, but he doesn’t get to be that guy who makes that statement. It’s how someone who thinks they’re a good ally talks, when they feel that they, a white person, should be leading the charge in a movement of people of color.

10. Not everyone is giving him a pass on that comment

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/22/black-americans-joe-biden-democratic-party-relationship

As for myself, I'm not black, so I can't presume to make comments about how anyone who is black should react, but I'm sure they can all form a reaction on their own without my input.

As a white person, however, my reaction on hearing another white person make that comment was to cringe in mortification. It would be refreshing to have a white person running as president who understood that it's not his place to tell people whether or not they meet his definition of a black person.

12. Definitely cringeworthy

and I also cannot speak from an AA POV.

But there are certainly MAJOR differences between Biden and the Criminally Deranged Delusional Thug, Grifter and - right now - Outright Murderer currently occupying the WH!

If a gaffe like this really is enough to shake one's support for Biden, then we are ALL literally doomed!

13. That's a non-sequitor as far as I'm concerned

I have no interest in comparing Biden to Trump. That's an incredibly low bar that Biden easily meets, and it has no bearing on my vote in November, which will be for anyone that isn't Trump.

I'm comparing Biden with my expectations for an adult white person in 2020. I'm destined to disappointment, we have such a long way to go (myself included).

My sister called me and said you gotta see this!

I watched it. I sent a text - oh snap

She called me - he's been listening to our calls the

I'm not going to lie - I've been saying it for four years. Either I question you - or you are a con artist following the money.

16. Seems to me a lot of white people are allegedly upset by what he said.

Also seems to me the largest segments of minority populations are giving it no more concern than a mere shrug of the shoulders.
